Earth-shake

by
Just thought Id have a QQ about recent events this morning when I woke at 2-ish in the morning and layed there then a slight rumble started thinking it was just a truck nearby (main road nearby) I went to lay back down then the main part of it hit making my window rattle as the hairs on the back of my neck stood up on end, scaring the hell out of me lol! and after a bit of research it turned out to be a 3.3 quake a few hundred K'z away. O.o

That's freaky. But cool!
Do you think you awoke for no reason? Or perhaps you felt a earlier tremor?

I experienced similar a month or so ago when a 5.6 or 5.8 quake hit Virgina (I'm in NJ) for less than a minute a certain portion of the eastern part of the US felt it. I was laying on my bed when it happened, I at first thought a couple of my cats were rough housing under my bed but when it continued I realized that I got a small taste of what an earthquake is like. That, plus seeing the reports about it.

During the East Coast (of the US) earthquake I was on a floating dock.  It was a freaky feeling.  There were weird ripples in the water.  Rock cairns nearby collapsed.  It's so freaky to be in an earthquake when you're not used to it.

I was woken by another earthquake back in the 80s.  I woke up and the bed was shaking and stuff was falling off my bedside table.  I remember I had an awesome flipdown clock-radio back then.  It was no big deal.  This time people freaked out all over the place.  It was much more noticeable.

The really scary thing is the potential for another New Madrid type earthquake.  If something of that magnitude happened today the damage would be horrendous.  Even this little recent quake damaged the Washington Monument.  A new New Madrid could trash Memphis and other major cities.

We had a quake here in Ontario, Canada a few months back. We're not supposed to have earth quakes here since we're not on a fault-line. I was really tired and got all disoriented in my chair, thought it was just in my head until I seen my monitor shaking. I went down stairs a few minutes later and asked my dad about it, he said about the same thing. Checked the news, and sure enough it was an earth quake, just a small one, but man it made feel all funny.

Yeh We dont get many down this way (I live in South Australia) No where near a fault line but apparently we get random ones dotted about near the hills south of my city. so very odd :/

Earthquakes are always scary. Never know how bad they'll be till they're over. =/
