IB Here to Stay, Site Updates, Twits, Wiki

Hi everyone,

There's a few little tidbits to report this week! Things have been quiet lately on the News front, so we've been saving things up to cram into one more flavorsome journal.

Remember you can always change the Site News option in your Account Settings if you don't want to receive news via email.

Inkbunny Here to Stay

The biggest news for our little site this month is the fact that sales volumes are now high enough to cover essential hosting costs. With your help, we've proven the business model is sustainable, and that Inkbunny will be able to keep funding itself into the future.

To achieve this after only 3 months online and with a small userbase is amazing. It has been possible because so many of you believe in us and our crazy idea, and have provided your support by becoming buyers or sellers on Inkbunny, or by simply posting free art or following your favorite artists here. You all rock.

As our site grows, then site activity and sales will pick up even more. Thank you everyone for being patient and sticking with us while things are relatively quiet in these early days. Just another few thousand users and we'll really be kicking along. :3

Invite your friends! Tell your Grandma! We need more members!

Inkbunny on Twitter

There is now an official Inkbunny account on Twitter. Keep up with site news and events by following us at https://twitter.com/inkbunny_news

Inkbunny Wiki

There is now an Inkbunny Wiki at http://wiki.inkbunny.net/

There isn't much on there right now but we are slowly expanding it. Most of the static help files on the site will be moved over there. If you're interested in contributing to the Wiki, please let us know what you'd like to add to it.

Site Feature Updates

We are now running version Beta 26. There's been a lot of changes in the code to improve speed and security.

Nothing sexy to see with this update really, except for the new Site Banner Changer. If you wave your mouse over the Site Banner, you will see that you can now choose one, or allow it to select them randomly on page load. There's only two choices for now. As new banners are added, we'll let you know.

Another small change is that Free files now have an upload limit of 20MB (up from 10MB). This is mostly useful for anyone uploading larger MP3s or videos.

That's all for now! Time for hot cocoa and bed. -.-

Good to hear it =)

Are you guys going to start taking up ads (furry related) at some point; or just keep it to sales?

We will never display ads for pay, or force anyone to see ads. Our money will always come from the sales on this site.

However ads do serve a purpose in supporting the furry community and the small businesses that are part of it. And we'd love to do everything we can to help those businesses just like they help us when they promote IB or use us to sell their work.

We've been approached by a few sites that want to cross-promote, so we're trying to work out a nice way to have opt-in ads. You'd only see ads if you choose to. So we're thinking of ways to make it desirable to turn them on!

And those ads would be free to place, we'd never take money for them. We may insist on cross-promotion (so they have to place ads for IB on their sites if they are commercial operators) as the only condition.

But these are all wild new ideas right now.

I'm surprised, and not sure if I like it or not, but you guys seem to have it pretty solid on what you'd like to do...

If cross promotion is not an option then the person is out of luck; or if you let in ads that aren't paid for in some way then I fear it will be abused.

Stuff to still iron out I'm sure

If we ever allow free ads, you will never see them unless you turn it on. It won't be on by default.

I don't think the free ads thing could be abused. We'll be picky about the quality and purpose of ads.

This is all "way down the track some time" thinking anyway. :P

Perhaps you should start some sort of link exchange? =3 Just limit it to a certain page perhaps. Call them "Link Sponsors" or something. =3 Could be a good way of getting IB 'out there'. ^_^

Hold up. Free ads that are free to disable by users? That's bizarre. You guys are strange folk over here in Inkbunnyvalley.

Would the free ads only be available to people who enable ads? Would you be enacting some sort of strange referral-rewards, or is effort enough?

Yeah I know we live in some kind of magical dreamland! The only reason for ads on a site like ours is to help the community of other small businesses and artists trying to get word about their projects out into the world. We don't want to make money off ads here OR force people to look at ads.

Bizarrely, I suspect that allowing people to turn ads on means the people looking at ads are the ones who WANT To see what is out there to buy. So it's all more efficient that way. I mean, why bug people with ads when 99% of them would just adblock them or avoid our site totally cuz they hate ads. But let that 1% of interested people choose to see them, and let people advertise for free, and it all has so much more POINT. Considering we make our cash from sales anyway. Just my way of thinking. :P

I myself have my adblock disabled for pages like FA and SF because the ads sometimes concern my interest and I like to help the community in tiny ways like that. Plus, once you buy an ad on a site, seems like you should look at the other ads.

I was always under the impression that people blocked ads because they were usually either really annoying (flashing colors, pop ups, sounds) or because ads are a way for viruses to get onto the computer. If all online ads were static images - no flash or java, no pop-ups - I think a lot less people would want an adblock.

Anyways... I'm all for experimental advertising techniques, so I look forward to hearing any developments on this hare-brained scheme.

Congratulations. I just migrated over to this site, and I think it looks wonderful for such a young community :D

Got some suggestions, myself, but they're really small, petty things that'll probably get picked up in the near future anyway :3

You should click on the "Customer Service - Support Tickets" link below (under 'Help') and tell them anyways. =3 I've been speaking my mind and have seen some somewhat direct changes from them. =D I've also kinda sent them a few 'wishlist' type ideas.

I actually ended up doing that not too long after I posted this. I couldn't find the place to do it at first :P

Thanks. And yeah, for the admins who may read this, I love having administrators to whom I can talk :D

No, no! No need to apologize!

I meant that it was great that someone replied to my suggestion and in such a way that I felt like I could talk to them as a friend :3 Good stuff ^^

Just giving some feedback to encourage such things ^^
