howdy! A few of you might know that I'm working on an Alvin and the Chipmunks comic, which is a commission from someone. If you do know this then you probably know I've mentioned that I wouldn't be selling it, and that was mainly because I wanted to start using more original characters in any upcoming portfolios and comics.
Unfortunately I need money, lots of it, so I'm probably going to try and sell a portfolio/comic about every month or so. Now, I could wait until I finish the comic I'm working on to get started on one I'm actually going to sell, but it would really be better for me if I sell this one as well.
Of course, I'd like to hear some of your opinions first, mainly on if you think I should sell it or not, (the commissioner certainly thinks I should) a few things people should know is that, it's only going to be $10, seeing as some people didn't think $15 was appropriate last time. It is also going to be cub, which comes with the characters, so if you don't like that kind of stuff I suggest not buying it. I don't know how many pages it's going to be as of yet, but it's going to be about as long as my buster comic I did last time
Personal opinion would be that if the commissioner is paying for your time they should be entitled to some if not all of the profit from the comic. However, that is between you and the commissioner.
Selling the comic itself is fine by me. I'll likely buy it because I like Theo lots and lots =)

Selling a comic with copyrighted characters might be getting into a legal gray area. I don't personally have a problem with it, but it might step on some toes if the wrong people find out. I think you're going the right direction with trying to sell comics, but the Alvin and the Chipmunks one might be the wrong one to do it with.
Also, it might not be the best plan to go broadcasting that you do that kind of thing on commission. While it's probably cool with most of us, there will be a few who will get completely anal about it. As far as I can tell, free work is protected under fair use, but if you charge for it there may be problems. And no, I'm not trying to get free commissions from you, though that would be awesome. ;)
If someone can cite some proof that it's perfectly legal to do this sort of thing, and under what conditions, I would love to be proven wrong.

I suppose it greatly depends on whether the people concerned have anything better to do. At one point I had the misfortune of encountering such a person with absolutely nothing else on their calender. The experience was a major bummer, even though it didn't turn out as bad as it could have. And you have like 100x as much visibility as I did when that happened to me.
Just voicing my concerns. If you decide to sell the comic, I certainly won't complain :)
