We have made a good deal with our hosting provider to get hold of a quad-core server that is powerful enough to deal with the massive traffic we'll experience after launch day.
It is basically the same as having the two dual-core servers we were originally hoping to get, but rolled into one box. The cost has ended up the same as we were expecting for two smaller servers, but we have gained a huge benefit - Unmetered Bandwidth. This means that no matter how much user traffic we get, we pay the same fee every month. There is no limit or cost for data transferred to or from our server. This is the holy grail for a high bandwidth graphics-intensive site like ours.
It may take a couple of days to move over to the new server. The site will be offline during this time, so expect several days downtime starting around the 1st of June (or even a little bit earlier).
Once the new server goes online we'll be running some final tests and updates before opening the floodgates to let in the public hordes.
