I was into making AMVs and one afternoon while I was putting one together for the song god bless the broken road by Rascal Flatts. I was searching youtube for inspiration, and on the side I spotted one that read God Bless the Furry broken road (M/M) and I clicked it....after the video I was weeping tears of joy at the video and the artwork. I had to find more of these amazing furries and I eventually found Yiffstar.

I found the fandom when I was 13-14 years old while looking up porn.  I stumbled upon Lola Bunny porn and got into the porn quickly.  Then when I discovered YiffStAr (now SoFurry) when I was 17.  When I turned 18, I joined YiffStAr immediately.  Then when I turned 19-20, I found FurAffinity and here I am.

The long and the short of it.  How about you?

Found I had a boner while playing ff9. Then it was krystal from star fox. Then googling werewolfs and that led me to FA. I found that i enjoyed cub art equally with other furry art then they purged all cub art.  Someone messaged mw to come to inkbunny and ive been here ever since.  Its more then just an art site to me.  Its my internet home.  Ove met so many wonderful people here.

Yeah, feels slightly like a social network sometimes.  Though I didn't come here specifically for cub stuff.  In fact, I don't like cub stuff all that much.  I just signed up here to see if I could find a more kinkier audience for some of my kinkier stories.

I'd say it kinda all started growing up watching the old Looney Tunes cartoons, and Thundercats, Tiny Toons, a few others. That kinda started it, but when I really got connected to the internet, and exploring it, I found the early versions of 'Rule 34' of Tiny Toons, then found Thundercats, other cartoons and movies. Later I found places like FA, and SoFurry, and well, then I got hooked. I wish I could draw, but writing my stories is good enough for me.

I allways was fascinated from animal charas for exsample in comics, books and tv shows like Goof Troop, Montana Jones, Sherlock Hound and others and I allways wanted to be like them. Then a few years ago I found out that they are called furries so I was maybe a furry since I was in school but first know the word furry since 2008.

Hmm, I contacted an artist after finding a page of furry porn, and he talked to me for awhile, then he was a complete ass. I tried furryMUCK, and most people there were complete asses as well. Decided I didn't want anything to do with furries until a couple years later when I found true friends in the fandom. Never left it again for 15 years. Among them,

I think it was Palcomix.  I found them for their human porn comics, and liked the furry porn comics, too.  Then I made my way to CubCentral.  Then in 2007 (I think) I found FA.  Then I came here when the private beta of the site launched.  I'm user number 13. :)

I don't consider myself a furry, though. :P

Thought one day "I wonder if there's anybody drawing things on the internet in the style of, say, Robin Hood, where the animals talk and are kinda like humans." I googled it, and found porn of it. Joined FurrySanctuary first, back when that was a thing, and then moved to FA. I was under an assumed name for a while (since I wasn't 18) but for the past few years I've just been me. Yay me.

Can't say as I 'became' a furry(pretty sure I always was one, just didn't know it was a named thing), but I blame the original Thundercats(And Wilykit, she was both my first furry crush, and my first character crush as well.) cartoon, among many others from when I was a kit for helping me along the road. Still, I've had an obsession with anthro typo characters for as long as I can remember, so yeah...always have been on I guess.

As to how I got into the furry community, that involved actually having internet. After that it was just sort of a matter of stumbling into it via searches and random browsing. Mind you, I was really just a silent shadow for the longest of times, but that's how I tend to be.

Fine lol, since I saw baby loonie toons when I was 8 I liked Furries. Didn't start calling to it till 12. Age restriction sites are lousy when it comes to that. Just click yes. Then Rule34.xxx came along and I searched Furries and looked over the images and did my thing. The later became a brony, more less the cousin of Furries lol.

First of all I notice a lot of people mentioning loony toons and that about sums up the overall feel I get from the art on this site and most western furry sites.

As for how I got into this furry thing is one day I was curious of what Pokémon porn might look like and searched for rule 34 of various Pokémon I liked. Through that I stumbled upon wildcritters (this was before they split) which was a gold mine of Pokémon porn. Eventually I started getting interested in porn of things other than Pokémon and aware of the artists that make the porn. From there I followed the sources of my favorite pictures and began following artists at their source.

I got into what was then known as "funny animals" and "anthropomorphics" from a very young age. I will always consider Robin Hood that seminal film for me. Anthro cartoons and comics--with all the iconic names we all know, entertained me in my youth.
Come the 90s, I got into the "underground" furry titles by going to comix speciality shops. Disney kept the animated torch lit with titles like Goof Troop and Bonkers and Darkwing Duck. The Internet simply exploded this entire genre' beyond any expectation. it was then it became known as "furry".
The furry's come a long way, baby.

I don't know as I ever 'became' a furry.  I started out with a deep love for dragons, and drew a lot of dragon-related art when I was younger.  I was drawing dragon-related pornography for my own personal use when I was 13 years old, back in the mid-1980's.  In 2000 or so I got my first Internet capable computer, a Win98SE Compaq tower with a 56k dial-up modem, and I just kept drawing my weird, now-highly-anthro, dragon-related porn, but thought it was so weird that certainly nobody else in the entire world would ever think to draw it.  Boy, was I naive.

Then in 2002 or 2003 I got a better computer, and shortly after that got broadband Internet, and someone cautioned me about how easy it would be to download porn... and so I started looking for porn, but because most of it was photographic stuff and I wasn't really into photo stuff, I did a search for something related to what I was drawing.  I don't remember the exact search, it was 10 years ago after all, but I know that I had no clue about words such as 'anthro,' or 'furry,' and I hadn't even heard the word 'yiffy' yet, though I did know the word 'pron' from a friend, and in a search for Pron, lo and behold I found a furry art pic.  Then I started finding keywords like yiffy and so on, and I think I did my first search for "yiffy furry art" about two years after buying the computer.

I quickly found myself perusing the galleries of artists like Foxxfire and Ayame, and just loving it all, and later found some Digimon-related stuff.  This was all around 2004 or 2005, long before I ever got involved with the Otherkin scene in 2009.

When the Otherkin thing started, I didn't really fit in with them, and eventually left that community in early 2012 after one forum banned me for unspecified reasons, but alluding to a bunch of things that were quite untrue, to put it mildly.

All that time, though, I have enjoyed my furry art, and I love it.  I don't really consider myself a furry, and because of my break with the Otherkin community I don't use the O word that much either, and almost never in reference to myself unless it's talking about my time in that community.  I might occasionally call myself a furry just because it's easier for me to say (and for most people to understand) than "I believe I'm an extraterrestrial dragon who looks partially human who was worshiped by the ancient Sumerians as the Goddess Inanna long ago, but I'm not actually a goddess, I'm just a person who impressed a helluva lot of people several thousand years ago."

It's also shorter and uses a lot less air to just say "I'm a furry."  ;)
Bahlam
10 years, 10 months ago
There are odd attitudes in the otherkin community that I don't entirely understand.  It's like certain things are just totally acceptable but other things like furry fandom seem to weird otherkin people out in some way.  While at the same time they're casting their circle wearing an animal face skin or some such thing (Lupa's stuff creeps me out)*.  Me, I don't give half a crap if someone feels like some 'other' or if they're only around because they love fursuits or ponies or Tails in loose socks or busty vixens.  We can all be different and share an interest in furry things (and dragons, gryphons, fae, etc.)  I've felt like a cat as long as I can remember and identified with a jaguar as soon as I saw a picture of one when I was probably 4-5 years old.  I still have that picture.

* That's not to say I don't have ritual tools made of animal parts.  I have a very nice box turtle shell rattle with a whitetail leg bone handle, a handmade deerskin drum, and a collection of rather unusual feathers and other respectfully collected bits and pieces.
AphroditeDraco
10 years, 10 months ago
For me, the Otherkin community felt toxic, a lot like a religion in that there were topics that were never discussed, and if you dared open your mouth about them, almost the entire community would come down on you for being "fluffy," which is a word borrowed from Neo-Pagan communities that essentially replaces the Christian word "heresy."

And woe be to the poor dragon soul who inadvertantly said that a human killed him in a previous life... for that, my friend, is "Human-bashing," better known as Misanthropy, anti-human racism.  Because everyone and their sister knows that "a human/group of humans killed me" = "the entire human species is evil and must be destroyed."  At least everyone in the Otherkin community knows that.  In the real world, everyone knows that when you blame a single person or a group of people, that you're not actually blaming the entire human race, but that's an inconvenient detail that tends to be completely ignored if brought up.  *facepalm*

Needless to say, having been in Fundamentalist Christianity for almost thirty years I objected to the, erm, fanaticism I found to be quite rampant in the Otherkin community.  If I wanted fanaticism, I would have gone back to my old church.

Lol I see all that an no answers yet.   You must be hard at work, working.

I was interested in furry before I even knew about the fandom.  I have always had a rich imagination and tried writing stories when I was much younger.  Secret of Nimh was also more attractive to me than Robin Hood but many cartoons held my interests as well.  Raccoons, Shirt Tails, Thunder Cats and so so many more.

As for becoming Furry well I had imagined myself as many characters over the years, usually squirrels or cats, but for the fandom I started poking around about 5 years ago lurking for a long time until just two years ago.

I've always been a furry.  I've always been a cat.  When I was little I could feel a phantom tail and remember trying to see it in a mirror.  I used to sleep in a dog bed when I could get away with it.  So for me feeling not quite human has always been there.  Furry cartoons like Robin Hood and other decent furry cartoons (and lots of shitty ones) were great.  I discovered furry B&W comics in the 80s/90s (Captain Jack, Usagi, Critters) and started visiting furry sites and going to cons in the 90s.  The scene with Herman and Janet in Captain Jack #7 (I think) is probably the first furry porn I ever saw.  I watched Tiny Toons and the Disney Afternoon religiously for years and got deeply into cartoon fandom.  Now furry fandom is much more huge than it was back then and there are sites like this.  It's been quite a journey getting to this point.

There were never enough of them.

Long story.

I was 11 maybe 12 y/o and I don't remember exactly why, but I was searching in google images about veemon, guilmon, and flamedramon. Suddendly I saw exactly this one and exactly that site SITE and I was shocked. And closed that shit in the instant. Jeje I got a boner...

Next day I was curious about it, and researched it. And then it came this one and enter that site (herpy.net) and yes, I started fapping at it.

Next day the same, the after, and after, and after. When suddenly I end up at e621.net (still didn't knew about furries) and became completely curious about having anal sex by this image and then reading comments i read furry fandom. Go google go! googling about furry fandom I was kind of (WTF with this people) but I liked the way they are! Different, I HATE being the same as the society. And well, then I googled furry yiff, and furryandyiff.net apeared and my first comic, I my favorite (7~8 years and still my favorite) 3 Dogs Night Christmas by Demicoeur. And it is how it stared at furry fandom.

I dont have a fursuit, but I would love to.

Wondering why an otter? I loved Bayshore from Dogs Days of Summer by Blotch. Teeheee.

Now I'm 18 years old, knowing a lot about it and when I do searches at e621 or something like that, I love recognizing the artist from some art.

Btw I think all furries are a huge family!

I have a good friend who is a writer and is a furry (and a former student of mine in martial arts). We kinda went the opposite way - he started posting stuff in the non-furry genre because he intends to go pro mainstream and because I DONT have that intent I picked up the extra character possibilities of using fur-specific traits as character development and started writing in the furry genre.

It was when I was creating Sammy.  I made Sammy really just so I can have some cartoon character of my own, since I've always been super into cartoon art and such.  I never knew that 'fursonas' and 'furry art' were an actual thing until I stumbled upon FA.  When I finally decided to join there, I was too afraid to upload my drawings of Sammy because I had a huge fear that people were just gonna think he's stupid.  Shortly after I joined FA, the whole cub ban thing happened, and everyone came fleeing to this place (inkbunny).  I did have a few mature Sonic pics that got taken down, and I thought 'eh, it was fun while it lasted', and just ignored the internet again.  Someone messaged me a few days later though and directed me to IB, so I made an account, but wasn't active for the first 6 months of joining.  One day, I was just bored on my day off and felt like drawing my 'Character', and thought I would maybe jump back into the internet and try Inkbunny out.  To my surprise, people actually liked Sammy, and my art in general, which really sort of took me back I guess, but was really motivating, so I just continued to draw for this place.  I still saw myself have no attachment to Furries or anything like that, I really just saw myself as someone who drew crappy cartoons XD  But at this point, I had met some people, and a year after that, it actually made me curious to make a trip to Anthrocon, which I felt super out of place in.  I remember thinking how it just maybe wasn't for me, this whole furry thing..But driving back home from AC, I remember feeling a bit joyed, and actually missing the environment, even though I felt I had no connection to the fandom.  A few months after, a furry introduced me to a Furbowl not too far from me, and same thing happened when I went there as well.  Felt out of place, couldnt relate to anyone really, was shy and nervous, and again, after I had left, the next day I remember thinking back at it all and thinking how awesome it actually was...even though I just coward in the corner all night by myself XD  The next month I went, and really hit it off with a few people, and just had a great time all around.  Once I felt like I was apart of something, thats really when I considered myself a furry, and wanted to be apart of this wonderful world. XD  Immediately I commissioned a Suit, and just found myself really wanted to reach out to others in the fandom, and really try to give back to the community any way I could.........I think thats my story? XD

My mom gave me a Rescuers picture book in 1978, and there was just something about those mice that my mind latched on to. And when the Secret of NIMH came out, I was completely hooked from then on. I didn't know what a 'furry' was until I saw it defined on the internet in 1997, but I'd been one all my life.

Oh jeez. Old Disney movies and "funny animal" comix early on. I started reading Usagi Yojimbo in 1985 at the age of eight, a couple of years later I stumbled on Critters! and Ben Dunn's Mighty Tiny. When I was twelve the Disney Afternoon, Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs were providing a golden age of anthropomorphic television. Talespin especially impressed me and Rebecca Cunningham, business major, was my first furry crush. As a young teen I read Omaha the Cat Dancer and in 1993 I obtained a money order, signed a fake age statement and subscribed to Genus starting with the first issue. In Genus I saw ads for various furry related things, but this was still long before the internet was mainstream and I had no contact with other furs. It wasn't until years later, around 1998, that I first had internet and found Yerf!, VCl, DAFTA and later FA.
