Legacies

I know several people in the furry community; creative, funny, witty, wise, fun to know people.  And I've always wondered about their influences.  What things inspired and still inspire them?  In many I can see the things from pop culture and other artistic forms that give a little push here and there.  One friend of mine (at least I hope he is still a friend, I think I owe him a drink) seem so have been highly influenced by Bill Watterson's masterful creation "Calvin and Hobbs," as have so many others.  I also wonder if many of our contemporary fur artists put as much thought into their work as comic strip guys do.  For my friend's work, I've seen such powerful and thoughtful use of his own imagination, look on life and (believe it or not) personal philosophy, not just in his own stuff, but in his commission work.  Oh sure, a lot of commission stuff is all about naked naughtiness, but sometimes there is a look at more hidden in the work.

I get the feeling that there is often more going on within our community than just fap-art.  I think a lot of our artists have some of that in mind too.  Changing the attitudes of the world isn't done in huge chunks.  It's done one nudge at a time.  One little shift of thought leading to another.  And I think some of our artists, writers, and well, just the furs in general do promote that positive change.  At least that's my hope.

What are your thoughts?  Are we leaving positive, hopeful legacies?  Is our community making more than just things to look at while we have a little "personal alone time?"  What artists on here do you guys follow that have that spark of joy, humor, philosophy, emotion and vision that "gets you" someplace special?
