Brony Resignation Letter

I saw the best head-canons of my generation destroyed by corporate madness, My soul carved in slices by magenta earth ponies, dragging themselves through the zebra streets at dawn looking for hopes and dreams to sacrifice upon the alter of Mamon.

-Eric Helgeson, 2013

Dear Members of the Brony fandom,

Before I get down to the details, I think that it's best that we start at the beginning. Now like most of you, when I heard that My Little Pony was getting another TV show, I did not care in the slightest. My Little Pony at that time was considered to me for little girls and boys who might turn out to be gay. Nevertheless, when I heard about its sudden fame; I still was a bit adamant but I eventually decided to watch only on my one terms. However, on April 9, 2011, without any Netflix movies to watch, I had no other but to watch it. That show changed my life for the better. It was the prime example of what children’s shows should be like; full of great characters, smart storylines, great animation, and show-runners who listen to the fans. It was so beautiful, but I suppose good things must end. When Twilicorn was first announce, I was actually one of the fans who kept a calm head. I thought I knew the show-runners would not kowtow to corporate and sexist ideals and make an episode that would not destroy anyone’s head-canon. How wrong was I. After the episode aired, I went through depression-esqe symptoms. I could not get Alicorn Twilight out of my head and because of that, I could not enjoy the things I like, I had no desire to eat, I had a real lack of energy, my heart wouldn’t stop palpitating, I got chills, and I had feelings of hopelessness. It was a living hell. I had tried to seek others who shared my opinions and try to change Hasbro’s mind on the matter, but all I found was critics and trolls. These so-called fans called us “insane”, “retarded”, & “auties”. These people along with the show-runners (either unintentionally or not), have formed a monopoly of opinion against our views. They think their way is the right and only way, but I have tried to tell people that there is another way. That way we can have a canon for Bronies without the specter of executive meddling hanging over our heads. But alas, my warnings fell on deaf ears and with more and more people liking the monstrosity known as Equestria Girls, I’m afraid I do not have the strength to carry on. Therefore, with a heavy heart, I am throwing in the towel in order to live a life of order and dignity once more.

Now I would like to clarify one major thing. This will not be a permanent thing. In order to explain it better, here is a list of things I will no longer do:

    ·      I will no longer watch any artists on any major art site if their work has predominantly more Twilicorn and Equestria Girls art than anything else. (On deviantART, I will still only watch them for journals, polls and anything else of interest)
    ·      I will unsubscribe from anything pony related. This includes Tumblr, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, the works. (On Tumblr, I will still follow the Milky Way, Braeburned, Tiarawhy, Futashy, and Workhorse blogs for obvious reasons. ;) )
    ·      I will not frequent Equestria Daily as often as I used to and I will turn the AdBlock on when I’m on their site.
    ·      I might buy some MLP merchandise both official and fan-made, depending on the breaks.
    ·      I might watch any animation both official and fan-made. Ditto.

And here is a list of things I will do:

    ·      When I get a paying job, I might buy a few things pony related. Mostly being the Brony documentary, the book and the My Little Sweetheart portfolios)

    ·      I will not be deleting the art collection I have built up on DA and on my personal computer.

    ·      While I will not be shutting down the BronyCanon group, said group will go into a period of indefinite hiatus. I’ll check it out once every month or so for new submissions.

    ·      I will still give my thoughts on issues like how I would do Equestria Girls when they are wanted.

    ·      I will still buy the comics up until they added Twilicorn.

    ·      I might still fave the occasional artwork here and there, mostly due to artistic quality than anything else.

So in conclusion, I really don’t feel comfortable in supporting the show now that it’s going into a direction I have mix feelings about. I know there are fans that felt like that but were then able to recover and I applaud them for having stronger willpower then me. And whatever the Pro-Hasbro fans want, I’m afraid I can’t help you because I just don’t see it.

I have seen what's around the corner, I've seen what's over the horizon, and I promise you, you guys have nothing to celebrate! And no, I won't be there with you. I am going to back to the one thing that has given hope and inspiration for the human race since I was a child. I’m going back to Disney.
