I'm a furry but..

Hey all,

I've been pondering some things lately about being a fur etc and I've come up with some things.

I'm a furry, but..

1. I'm not part of a chat room.

I find that Skype, IRC and Facebook groups are great for organising events and sometimes general chit chat.. but the mods are usually power driven and some believe that if they mod one, even two groups, they dictate what happens in others - even if they're not a part of it. They can also be big drama pits where the same two furs battle it out until other join in "taking sides".

2. I don't have NSFW pics of my fursona.

Not saying it's a bad thing, but I don't really think that I need to have one. There is sadly one NSFW pic that is of Blade that was made, which ticks me off a bit because it was made without my consent and I didn't find out until someone fronted up to me about it months later.

3. I don't own any fursuit pieces..

And I don't want any either. I think that fursuits can be cool, but I wouldn't want one. they are hard to store, they get hot and sweaty, and are uber expensve and require skill to make. I don't even feel the need for ears or a tail.. Once again, personal opinion, and I'm not saying everyone has to follow suit.. but It does annoy me when I'm asked why I don't want to have one and then have them try to convince me to have one.

4. I don't hide that I'm a fur, nor do I blast it on the walls.

I can understand that when you say to a lot of people that you're a fur you either have to explain it, or they look onoine and shun you forever.. but if you don't want to be affiliated with furries, why be one? The flip side to this is the furs that make it seem like it's coming out as gay. Furry pride is about as bad as hiding it.. Some furry pride "followers" are the reason the fandom has a bad name in the first place.. If you blast it on the walls that you run around in animal suits and look at dog dicks in your spare time, of course people will be cautious of you.
If you believe being a furry could hurt your professional career make sure people know this if you're attending cons or events because a lot of people take photos and post them online nowadays. Fur priders, make sure that you ask people at private cons if they want their photo online, there are privacy laws in certain countries that mean that if those photos are not taken in a public place and are posted, you can be open to being sued.

Sorry for this rant, but it's a fandom, not a way of life.. could you imagine what the world would be like if every fandom was always walking around in costume, quoting their fanfics?

Anyway, I'll leave you with that to think on. I have course and my future career to focus on,

Thanks,
