The 15th January is a sad anniversary for me, and I was doodling to cheer myself up. By chance (or subconsciously) these two images seemed related to each other. I know people hate Amy, but she has a big heart, and I like how she shows faith in the goodness of Shadows character so early on.

Just friends...young lovers...I think whichever they were, they would have deep affection for each other

Awww... I hope whatever it is that makes you feel sad, you can cheer up. *hugs*

I'm personally don't mind nor bother with people that hate Amy since, personally, I think they're just a vocal minority and most of the time they "arguments" hardly can hold against the more informed and intelligent reasoning of Amy's fans, who I think also outnumber her detractors. Plus, no matter how hard they try, I will never stop enjoying this wonderful character and the Sonic franchise in general.

Also agree on the last. Amy in SA2 was the only character that felt that Shadow was not truly evil (something she does with other characters in different universes too). Also, I think that when she hugged Shadow by mistake, it was the first time that Shadow felt a warm embrace ever since the tragic loss of Maria, and really wish that SA2 had given them more time to interact and flesh out Shadow's character development towards the side of good and play out interesting scenarios involving Sonic too, in which Amy would try to stop them from fighting, etc. Sadly Amy got sidelined since Sega sadly seems to prioritize the popularity of certain characters over what they can add to the stories... though I still hope this changes one day.

I'm still hunting for which comic it was, but in the letters of one of the Sonic Universe comics, a reader mentioned liking Silver and Blaze as a couple. The comic response was something about Shadow and Amy making a good couple, so whether for a time Archie would have gone that way (given Sonic and Sally) I wonder. They worked well as a pair where they did interact.

When she grabbed him he didn't throw her off, and we know he gladly could and would have, so certainly something halted him. I think what you suggest is a good call....that it was the first he had felt an affectionate embrace for so long, and it left him feeling very conflicted.
