The steps in making a game

Over a decade ago, I was already making games and they took a lot less time than they do today. I think part of that is an offshoot of the Dunning Krueger effect, where I was still very much learning and my level of satisfaction was much lower than it is nowadays.

With that in mind, Valentine City Sinners is still in production, I'm working on it most days, and it's taking shape but it's certainly taking a while to get there. Delays are caused by my expectations being higher than before, the desiure to output higher quality and allowing myself to iterate a lot more on ideas to polish them up.

For the card game aspect, I already have innovated quite a bit and it's changing how I approach dungeon exploration and combat. The first version of the combat, including how the enemy AI will function, is pretty much complete so now I'm adding a few card effects for variety, and then I'll move on to polishing the dungeon exploration aspect of it.

Once that's complete, I'll move back to the other half of the game, where you meet people and develop relationships. I've already made good progress on that as well.

The last step will be to make some better menu visuals. I have a lot of temporary visuals in there which I know people would struggle with, so I'll replace it with something better (even if it turns out to be temporary).

I don't know when this'll come out. Originally I was hoping around end of May, but it might be end of June. I'll look forward to showcasing more of the game once I have some of the menu elements in.
