After Damien had forcefully separated Forrest and I, I blinked to the forest I used to hide in as a kid. After emptying my stomach into a nearby bush, I laid against a tree and collapsed from exhaustion. After a moment I felt the air shift ever so slightly. "So that's how you know, isn't it?" I asked. A soft glow illuminated my closed eyes. I opened them to see Forrest standing over me, their head tilted to one side. "What? When something is close by? Or when something's about to happen?" "Both, I guess." I replied. They waved a hand in the air, dismissing my questioning. After our apologies, they showed me another trick I'd be able to do now that I had acquired their blood. One less taxing, they promised...

The flames felt cool to the touch, and yet I felt like they'd burn all the trees around us if I let them. I noticed shortly after the fireflies had started flitting around, dancing in the shadows of the flames. I looked up to see Forrest leaning against the tree, watching me curiously. "Can I ask you something, Forrest?" "mmm?" "What makes you immune to the sun?" The tall canine smiled and reached out their hand, "Why don't we walk home? It's a long story that starts when I was reborn..."
