"Haruna wants you as her wife," the gorgeous cat had said, gazing up at Maki with those mesmerizing green eyes. At the time, Maki had brushed it off, But now, in the quiet morning hours, she couldn't avoid it any longer.
Marrying a cat. It was absurd. Illegal, even, but then again she already did do sexual acts with the feline and Maki couldn't deny the way her heart raced at the thought of Haruna's soft fur, her sweet meows, the way she purred so happily in Maki's arms.
Maki let out a shaky breath. She was already an assassin. What did she have to lose? Her reputation certainly couldn't sink any lower.
Lost in thought, Maki jumped when Haruna suddenly appeared at her side, rubbing against her leg. "Good morning, Maki," the cat purred. "I trust you slept well?"
Maki stared, still not quite used to Haruna's ability to speak. "Uh, morning Haruna. Yeah, I slept fine."
Haruna hopped up onto the couch beside her, curling up against Maki's side. Maki tensed for a moment before relaxing, wrapping an arm around the cat's warm bulk. "You've been distant these past few days," Haruna observed, looking up at Maki. "Is something on your mind?"
Maki sighed. "Haruna... about that confession you made a while back. About wanting to marry me..."
Haruna's ears perked up. "Yes? What about it?"
"Well..." Maki shifted uncomfortably. "I know it's sudden. And illegal. But I... I think about it a lot. About us."
A slow smile spread across Haruna's face. "You do? Oh Maki, that makes Haruna so happy!" She nuzzled into Maki's neck.
Maki's heart swelled. Unable to hold back anymore, she turned to cup Haruna's face in her hands, gazing into her eyes. "Haruna... I think I love you. I'm willing to try. To be with you."
Tears welled up in Haruna's eyes, spilling down her fuzzy cheeks. "Oh Maki! Yes, yes of course Haruna will have you!" She surged forward, capturing Maki's lips in a searing kiss.
Maki made a soft noise, sinking into the kiss even as her mind reeled. She was really doing this. Marrying a cat.
But as Haruna's tongue swept into her mouth and the cat's plush body melded against hers, Maki knew she'd never been happier.
Let the world think she was crazy, that she'd lost her mind. As long as she had Haruna, Maki didn't care.
