You can wipe the tip of a "Bic" (short for "ubiquitous") pen with alcohol and it makes it write really smooth, I use isopropyl alcohol but that's not the drinking kind. It's a very good art trick! Spray/squirk/squonk a little bit onto a paper towel, and then rub the tip of the pen on it. You only need a few drops. The ball (it's a tiny steel bb) gets clogged up when the ink on the outer part of the ball drys and that's what makes them draw "chunky"
