In Undertale, it was obvious why Toriel ditched Asgore (would you marry a child-murderer?), but in Deltarune it's never specified what caused them to divorce. I don't know if it'll be revealed in the next chapter, but my guess was that Asgore couldn't grow a spine when it came to raising the kids, or anything for that matter.

Probably one of those Universal Constant thing's. Ya know when a multi-verse happens and a character does a thing? And that thing becomes constant throughout each iteration.

I find that hard to believe. In an infinite number of universes, why would one aspect stay the same? There's bound to be at least one universe where the constant doesn't happen.

So, all we really know about their split in Undertale, at least as far as I recall, is that Toriel left for the Ruins after Asgore declared war on the Humans. And this was some time before anyone other than Chara fell into the Underground. The killing kids thing didn't really happen until later.

Nothing has been figured out about their divorce in Deltarune, but people have theorized it's related to the disappearance of Dess, who is Noelle's older sister. Considering he used to be the police chief before then, it's possible the more wishy-washy disposition may have been a result of it. Knowing Toby, probably not, but it does make one wonder!
