I saw enough of this crossover and I'm here to put a finale on it. The official one for a simulated race. I'll share my oppinion about this competition and the why of my choice. Feel free to do the same.
I know both character's concepts and settings are really away from reality, but If there is a winner in this competitive crossover, that's Sonic, nobody else.
Sonic is a real speedster. His design looks cool and efficient for speed at the same time, and just looking at him, I know I'm looking at a fast character. As an experienced runner and adventurer, he looks unbeatable in the racing scenario, and take in count he has been in the run and acrobacies for over than 20 years. Talking of speed, Sonic has no rivals. His top speed is unknown, but it's well known he can break the sound barrier with extreme ease (it can be seen in Sonic X episode 1), and pushing himself to the limit, he can move at the speed of light, as it has been seen in various games and comics. All that in his normal form. Sonic is also an action character. I see this vid and I think "lol, he's freakin' awesome :D". Now about Rainbow Dash... Well... Rainbow Dash IS NOTHING. I've showed enough evidence to set Sonic as the Winner and Dash as the LOSER. Sonic has been "The Faster Thing Alive" for 20 years, Dash has been a fucking flying gay pride symbol for 2 or 3 years. I can show Sonic's awesomeness with a vid, where are the Dash's vids showing her awesomeness? Nowhere, only lame collages with stolen music and random episodes fragments. As artist, I see Rainbow Dash design and I puke; a speedster char, really? Faust, you need some practice. Look and her mane, and tail, and wings size... The only thing I can realize of such gestures, is "this is not a fast character"... I've never seen Sonic doing such effort expressions, even when he goes beyong light speed... So, my first and last thought is "Dash is not designed for speed...". She is just designed to look "bisexual as hell" but nothing else... This is a thought you bronies must learn to assimilate, and learn to live with it; Dash is just the second one; nothing else. You may like her, but Sonic is the ultimate speedster. Deal with it ;)
So, after all the evidence and possible simulations, I set Sonic the Hedgehog as the WINNER, and Dash as the second place, because of her popularity... Too bad this was not a popularity contest :p

Well, Dash on the ground has been proven to be nothing but average, only staying evenly matched with AJ at best. As for her flight speed, there's a good chance that only matches Sonic's as well. But of course, Dash may be able to get from point A to point B faster since she can fly, being able to avoid loop-de-loops and other platforming challenges.

I've always loved sonic and i've always loved MLP and dash (back when she was an earth pony) I don't compare them against each other cuz as you pointed out there is no comparisons. but they do in there own fandom share similarities. both are the fastest, both are referred to as the coolest, both are very loyal to there friends. the similarities are there. I actually love the idea of sonic and dash as a couple not only because they have similar characteristics but also because it pisses sonic fans and bronies off. for me they are the best with in there respective fandoms.

Dash is slow as mud, she took just about 3 attempts and 2 minutes to even come close to a Sonic Boom, whereas Sonic himself can perfect two booms as soon as he takes off from a standstill. In Sonic CD sonic is able to run so fast he travels through time... but yes only 1 guy i believe can run faster then sonic and that is the flash, who has done alot of same feats as sonic, is possibly a better fighter, and faced guys way more powerfiul then sonic ever has. But as far as sonic vs dash goes, i have seen no evidence that dash can move even a fraction of sonic's speed. In fact made a big deal of her breaking the sound barrior... which sonic can do with out trying...in fact he has issues not going that fast as moving slowly seems to be difficult for me in a few episodes of the series and archie comics they hint at this.

I think that's kind of the point. Both characters were designed to be cartoonish. Sonic was designed with a large head due to (probably) game-design reasons (you can't properly draw recognizable faces on a tiny sprite-head, I'm guessing), and Rainbow Dash was designed to be an attractive character/toy for little girls. Neither would realistically be considered 'fast', let alone fast enough to break the sound barrier. The only thing was that the writers said 'He/she will be fast!', and since fictional characters are whatever the writers want them to be, they were displayed as fast.
Which is why this is... well... kindof stupid, let alone worth raging over. Fictional characters will be as powerful/fast/smart in their designers/writers want them to be, and there will always be a more ridiculously powerful/fast/smart character no matter what character you pick.

Though all of this dissing on Dashy sounds harsh despite some truth on this. She's rather a beginner compare to Sonic (who btw you forgot to mention his speed warped him through time in one of his GOOD games) on this speed stuff, but then again so is his friend/lover Tails. Sonic can go fast as the speed of light BUT he can't use it unless there a row of rings or bad guys. light dash which its called btw, is more of a attack move than a running move. Sonic top speed is the speed of sound. even in super sonic, he doesn't go beyond speed of light as many ppl say, but he is much faster in super form. sonic designed for speed, there no fighting there.
now on to dash. dash is a fast flyer. faster than anyone in ponyville. before, she had problems doing the sonic rainboom but she can do it with no problems now after seeing it in season 2 finale. her body isn't designed for speed but that doesn't matter. i believe her body is very light, since her tiny wings can carry that huge body.

It depends which Sonic it is. Modern or Classic? Classic potbellied Sonic could reach Warp Sonic speed, and if he acquired running shoes, could be just as fast if not faster than Dashie. Modern Sonic, however, could use the Light Dash and reach Light Speed, or if it was Sonic Colors Sonic, then he could definitely outrun Dashie because he could use the White Wisps to boost. Dashie has an advantage of her own, though, with her Sonic Rainboom. I'd say it's evenly matched; a no contest.
