A longtime friend of mine from The Netherlands, sqrl , answered my call for leptictidium art (he has trouble drawing anthros- Oh, well) with this piece over two years ago.
Leptictidiums are extinct mammals that used to thrive in various areas of Europe and North America (mostly Europe, though) between 45-30 million years ago. The best-preserved specimens of this family of 5 species are found in Germany. They are similar to their contemporaries, the solenodon family (which two species barely survive today in the Caribbean), except leptictidiums, or "leptis", as I like to call them, stand and run on their hind legs. Leptis were one of the few mammals capable of running upright on their hind legs, rather than hopping.
