From my understanding "傷つく" means: "(kizutsuku): to become wounded, often meaning to have negative experience related to a relationship" Which seemed pretty fitting.
P.S there's a good chance the ending moved me so much because the music I had on enhanced it 10 fold. check out a classic song "Obokuri-eeumi" when you get to chapter 16 :')
