It's a beautiful day in the park; birds are singing, sun is shining and everyone is having fun here. Everyone except him. It's not unusual to see people sitting at the park bench but it's very unusual to see somebody sitting there doing nothing. He's just looking around and then back to the ground. He looks... Sad. It's already weird seeing another wolf at the park: most of us tend to visit at night with other nocturnals. But there he is- oh god... He's crying.
I'd better see if he's okay. As I'm walking towards him he looks shocked and quickly wipes his tears away then looking away from me. I reach the bench and speak to him, smiling. "This seat taken?" I ask him. He continues looking away from me. "No... I'll leave. You can have it." His voice is soft, almost kind sounding. Unusual for a wolf. I look at him closer: he's really short. No taller than 5 feet. I'm considered short at 5'11 but he's really short. "Don't be ridiculous! There's room for both of us." I assure him.
Finally he looks at me. He's got wet fur underneath his blue eyes. He's clearly upset. Now that I notice his fur is pretty light. In fact: it's beige. As Timberwolves light brown fur is common but beige... That's a new one. My fur looks dark in comparison despite being a fairly light brown. I snap back from the silence as he replies. "Okay..."
"You alright?" He's facing towards me but his eyes are looking away. "No... I... You wouldn't understand..." He's forcing himself to not cry, I can tell. "Well... Tell me anyway. I just got off work and have time to kill." I work as a crossing guard for a school. Boring work but it pays. I smile at him assuredly, trying to comfort him.
"Well... I'm... I'm lonely..." I actually can relate. "What's your name?" "Wh-what?" "What's your name? Mine is Sam!" For the first time he makes eye contact with me. "... Joshua. C-call me Josh." "Well Josh... I do understand. I honestly don't really have any friends." It's very unusual for a wolf to not have friends, but I'm not usual so... "Oh... I'm sorry to talk your ears off..." I quickly butt in. "Don't worry about me I'm used to it. Let's talk about you." He looks a little puzzled but obliged.
"Well... my friends recently left me..." He looks back down at the ground. I wait for him to speak but he stays quiet. "How come?" I budge him, sounding sympathetic. "I'm... Gay." He said quietly. Oof yeah, really can relate. That's basically why every other wolf shuns me. "Well... To be honest so am I. How's about we become friends?" His eyes light up. "Yeah?" I nod and pat him on the shoulder. "Yeah! I get off work same time tomorrow. I'll see ya again then!" I get up and walk away, waving at him. What a weird day.
