“And you’re sure that this isn’t going to hurt him?” Buukaz asked somewhat nervously as he looked the head mage standing in front of him.
When an annoyed growl rent the air the crimson scaled bangaa found his head immediately turning to look at his larger companion. To say the least BT was not pleased by what was happening right now; that the red lizard was even able to get the other to this point where they now stood within the larger hall of the magical guild in the first place was a testament to how much the intangir trusted him. BT growled as the memories of being held captive by a group of mages danced within his mind reminding him of how helpless he had been before the bangaa had come to rescue him. However in looking at his herdmate smiling at him the blue behemoth calmed down just a little bit; he was safe here, otherwise the little lizard wouldn’t have allowed the two of them anywhere near these strange creatures.
Buukaz sighed as he watched BT calm down, though was smart enough to know that his companion’s trust in him was not going to hold up at all if the mage’s kept being so tense. The blue behemoth had a strong sense of smell, as was expected of a creature his size, and so as the magic wielders became more nervous around him BT became more frustrated and angry, which in turn made the black mages more jumpy. A dangerous cycle to say the least as Buukaz noted the way his companion’s ivory claws dug deeply into the stone underneath his body, the furrows for which were created made the bangaa tense sharply. He immediately turned his head to look back the head mage, who seemed nonplussed about what was going on within the room.
“I am,” the other sighed in that patient sort of way that only a father could when speaking to a child being forced to take an unknown medicine. “Just as you should be, considering your magical prowess.”
Buukaz blushed and then nodded his head, his four long ears flopping slightly as he did so. “R-right.” A sharp bark behind him made everyone save the head mage jump slightly. “C-calm down, BT.” the bangaa said after turning his head towards the larger intangir. The sight of the other’s muzzle wrinkling backwards as his golden eyes narrowed to paper thin slits let Buukaz know that his time for hesitation was running out. “A-alright. Please go ahead with the spell.”
The head mage sighed in relief at hearing those words. Nodding to him the steeple cap wearing man stepped over to the circle of black mages surrounding the behemoth and then lifted up the wooden staff which had been clutched tightly in his gloved hands. When tapping the staff down onto the floor the resounding noise brought a great silence over the entire room, everyone turned to look at the elder mage with eyes carrying various looks of relief within them, well, all except BT.
The blue behemoth couldn’t hide the annoyed expression which covered his slightly twitching muzzle, he had not been pleased to have the sudden sharp noise slap itself across his hearing, however he soon found that frustration melting into a slight panic as he watched the one who had been speaking with his herdmate lifting up his hands.
“I-it’ll be okay, BT.” Buukaz said as he noticed the spike of tension which overtook his larger companion’s muscles.
It was those words which drew BT’s attention away from the black mages and thus made him completely susceptible to spell which quickly encompassed his body. As he looked into the emerald eyes of his smaller herdmate the black mage’s bodies soon began glowing as the magical energy within them was channeled between each other and then outwards into the intangir. When the enchantment drew itself over him BT felt as though he were being hit by a tidal wave, his body instantly tried to fight off the power which was encompassing him, however, because he was still very young by behemoth standards his natural resistance couldn’t resist the black mage’s spell. Soon enough the effects became easy enough for everyone to see as the blue behemoth’s body drew down...down...down.
Buukaz watched in utter fascination as the once towering figure shrunk to half his original height before becoming a quarter as big as he normally was. He had always known about the mini spell for which most black mages could cast, however he had never thought to actually try and master it, if only because it seemed like such an unfair advantage to have over someone in battle. Well, that and the fact that it would probably be somewhat difficult for him to cast, what with his muzzle not being able to move his lips and speak the necessary words needed to cast most spells. It was mostly by sheer force that he powered through the fire, thunder, and cure series of spells for which he had learned, and while that might have seen like something to be proud of it was something which brought a bit of shame to the red lizard.
Buukaz didn’t like to admit it but he actually had something of a deep seated fear at the thought of being up close to someone in battle due to seeing the numerous scars which covered the bodies of the hunters who lived back in his village. That one of the men in question had lost an eye due to a random monster attack and was now forced to wear an eyepatch over the gaping hole was something that often turned his stomach whenever he thought about it, like now for example. That was why the first thing he did upon leaving home was to find a magic guild which would help him learn basic attack spells, because the further he could be away from an opponent, the happier he would be.
For his part BT was rather out of sorts as he noticed the world around him becoming larger and larger as the seconds ticked by. Because he had always towered over everything around him the blue behemoth didn’t know how to exactly feel about suddenly having to look up at the creatures around him. A slight tinge of fear enveloped his heart as he felt his strength, which had always carried him through life’s toughest challenges, slowly dwindle down to the point where it felt as though picking up his own arm was going to be a great challenge. Looking into the eyes of his now no longer quite so little herdmate BT silently asked the other to make this stop.
“HEY!!!” the bangaa shouted when he noticed that the intangir now stood at a sixteenth his normal height!
“Oops!” the head mage said as he ceased chanting his spell. Drawing his staff back down onto the ground the black mage broke the ring of magical energy which had been created between himself and those within the group he had assembled. “I think we might have overdone it a bit.” he said with a light chuckle. He then yelped when a clawed hand walloped him against the back of the head.
“Ya think!!” the crimson bangaa growled as the older man reached up to rub at his now stinging head. “Fix him now!!” Buukaz snarled with enough ferocity to actually make the head mage take a step back in slight panic.
“Uhhh…well...” when the older man began to fumble slightly.
“Well what?!” Buukaz asked as terror gripped his heart within a vice tight hold.
“None of we black mages know any restorative magics.” the head mage admitted with a slight chuckle. “We usually leave that to the white mage department.”
“So call one of them down here!” the bangaa shouted.
“It’s their day off, so none of them are here at the moment.” the head mage shrunk back at little as Buukaz leaned forward into him with green eyes blazing with repressed anger and mystical might. “B-but don’t worry! This will work out perfectly for you!”
“How. So?” the bangaa asked in a tone that could shatter stone from its intensity.
“While all of the white mages are off duty we have access to the building where they store all of their spell tomes and scrolls,” the black mage swallowed thickly. “so since you came here wanting to learn how to use some greater magics, then you can have a read through their books and learn the ensuna spell needed to undo our mini spell.”
“Show me where this building is right now.” Buukaz snapped after he turned to look at BT, who was looking around the room rather confusedly.
“Right.” the older man said as he turned on his heel away from the angry red lizard. “If you’ll follow me, I just need to go and get the key to their building from my office.”
