The tunnels were a maze. Literally. There were dead ends, loops, and confusing and incorrect directions graffitied on the walls. Parts looked like sewers, parts like abandoned subways, and parts had clearly just been made up as dungeon--not even sex dungeons, full on ‘mad scientist has set up fun deathtraps here in anticipation of infiltrating heroes.’ After the first three ‘exits’ he tried had just led to OTHER mad science labs, he gave up on going up, and just tried to cover horizontal distance.

Going back would have been a serious option, if he’d any idea which way ‘back’ was. He was in the bowels of the labyrinth, and either it would slowly digest him with starvation and thirst, or he’d run into whoever or whatever the minotaur was. Because of course there would be one.

He couldn’t possibly be the first one to have escaped from the labs into these tunnels.

So then, finally, he found another guy down here, (assuming he HAD found him, and not the other way around, but best not to think about that.) A kinda scary guy who definitely looked like he came out of one of those mad scientist labs. But if this guy was older, tougher, more experienced, and apparently willing to make deals? Then if there was a way out, he would have the best shot at knowing it.

He might not be the minotaur. He might be Ariadne.

...Or he’s just a smooth-talking minotaur.

-----

Fang in the original of this one makes me shudder at how horrible the anatomy was.

The original intent was that Lucky and his family were all in the tunnels, escaping from whatever bondage they had been in, but Lucky got separated. I ended up not liking that. I reimagined Lucky’s situation entirely. I thought about delving into it in this backstory, buuuut decided against it. Maybe something newer and stronger will seize me eventually.

What happened to the 99 Dalmatian kids? This situation/conversation doesn't give high hopes for them

Well, one might glean from context that dalmatians are very fashionable to have as slaves, wherever this is. So...
