An era of passenger locomotion has ended. The EMD 'Bulldog Nose' locomotive style and derivatives are no longer being used for passenger transportation. The V/Line A60 locomotive ran the final Bacchus Marsh service handled by a bulldog nose locomotive, ending an impressive Diesel-punk styled streamlined era where the trains were sleek, and railways had style. The A-class locomotive set single Diesel-Electric locomotive speed records for Australia, breaking 175km/h. The XPT locomotives, the record holder for Diesel locomotives in Australia, hitting 193km/h, does have the record... but that involved the use of two locomotives, not only a single locomotive.
While the eventual plan is complete replacement by the VLocity series, the intermittent replacement is the N-class locomotive. Which is nearly mechanically identical, and has HEP support. They were ordered when it became apparent that rebuilding the B-class locomotives to A-class was becoming as expensive as ordering new N's.
Also, thank you!
