How can data be stolen if it's public? If you put a piece of art or a photo on the internet and make it freely available for anyone to access, you can't just expect it to be immune from if someone takes it into photoshop and tweaks it for their own purposes. Same thing if you put out a song, you can't control whether or not people are gonna make a parody of it and put it up on youtube for people to laugh at.
