AI thoughts

Hello everyone.  I've really been impressed as to how detailed AI art has become and feel like it's a love-hate feeling with me.  On one paw, I can clearly see that some take the time to generate amazing images, and painstakingly enhance them using their own skills.  This artistic talent in and of its own.  I compare it to how things evolved in the movie making era of the 80's to the present.  In the past, movie sets, creatures, and effects were painstakingly created by hand and in may instances this took many hours and left them with one shot to get it right. As time went on, CGI, green screen and computer effects took over.  Now for me, I feel like although this was so much "easier", it felt like cheating and took away the old art form of set building where artists used creative ways to achieve an effect.  This also diminished 2D animating which left animators in that field high and dry.  Despite this, I began to realize how much talent and effort went into that 'new' process as well.  I guess my point is that I can appreciate BOTH forms of creativity and art and I do think AI art has a place.  I think that it's easy to forget that AI generation is only as good as the data it has access to.  So as the lowly horny art enjoyer, I feel as if AI art generation can be good and it clearly presses all my buttons in a good way.  I do feel like AI images will saturate the arena so to speak.  To much of something can become boring, less effective and undesired over time. I worry that artists will become frustrated and under appreciated in the future which will lead to less creativity in the world. What helps me is that I appreciate traditional art differently then I do AI art.  Both have a place for me to enjoy in different ways with different levels of appreciation..  So what's your views on AI?

I have a negative view on AI art and while it has its places those places should not be here. I would much more prefer to support real artists who are in need of my help and who can create me something awesome in return.

You views are appreciated.  I think there could be room for both here.  Those seeking to support traditional artists can still do so, knowing that they're getting a unique one of a kind piece of art.  I've seen things go in a direction where an artist is overwhelmed with requests and cannot keep up with their queue.  In time they become burnt out and see drawing as a chore.  I guess for me, I try to see the good in both sides and have learned to appreciate various types of art in different ways.  I'm all for supporting artists and truly admire and appreciate the difficult work that goes into making a piece. That said, I can't deny that I enjoy some of the AI art as well and appreciate the time and skill it must have taken to generate and refine something that can also look quite good.

I don't care much about AI. I use it to generate smut for me to masturbate to, since my favorite writer takes far too long to complete a piece. It does not replace humans, though... I still enjoy art made by humans all the same and people still get tons of money in commissions. People still want to do art trades with me and still request me stuff on occasion, although I not always have the time to do those. So, my art is still required, let alone the art by those who are better than I am.

I think you make a good point.  I feel like the type of art AI generates is generally that of licensed characters or scenarios where most traditional artist wouldn't want to draw to begin with.  This is probably not a popular view, but I feel like artist could embrace and use AI to their advantage as a helpful tool.  No one wants to see creativity disappear and I truly respect artist for learning to draw and sharing their works with us.  I feel like there should be some way for artists to consent or limit / block their art being used in AI generators.  At the very least have some rule where the AI generated image must include their art reference in the image.  I don't like seeing images where you can tell the artist and see their signature scrambled.  Instead it should say "This is AI generated with some sources from this artist (and provide a link).

It can be used ethically.
