As this election draws to a close it is difficult for a lot of us not to fall into despair. There is a hard road ahead for queer and trans people, for immigrants and minorities, and ultimately for kindness and decency of all types. If you are hurting or scared right now, believe me those feelings are valid and understood...
I am not going to tell you that everything will be okay, or that there is no reason for fear. However, what I will say is that you are stronger than you know. As a community we can come together and accomplish more than we think is possible. When we come together, we can provide hope to others, and we can defend those we care about from things that would harm them.
It is not always going to be easy, but the response to our own situation should be living proof that even small groups can do great things. Not just financially, but emotionally and spiritually, you have all come together and made an impossible situation into one that feels manageable. It still hurts, and it has still already taken far longer than it should, but it is now something that we can survive... no matter how this ends, know that we are eternally grateful for that.
Please do not abandon hope, and please do not abandon kindness. We are going to need each other in the coming years.
