What I'm Thankful For

If you want to hear what I am thankful for. Here goes.

2020 has been a very rough year, not just for me, but for all of mankind. The darkness has been the prevailing force with corruption tainting our leaders and heads of states, an economic crisis causing distress among the populous, and a pandemic unleashing untold suffering upon all it touches. I too have felt its life draining sting. I need not say the world is not doing so well.

But even as we all endure the hardships right now. There are reasons at least on my personal front, I am thankful for. I am still alive. Covid19, which I along with my entire household suffered, could have very well ended our lives as it did to a quarter of a million Americans and counting. But I survived it. We all did, I am thankful that my fiancee, who is the reason why I am the happiest person on earth, was spared from death. I am thankful that my father too, survived Covid19 despite the fact he is among the highest risks to be killed by this horrid decease. I am thankful that we have been allowed to continue living life for both better and worse.

Despite the other hardships that we have endured for the past month, I am thankful for these hardships coming our way. As crazy as it sounds, these hardships have force myself, my fiancee, and my dad to push past our own fears as necessary to face these challenge head on and overcome them. Expanded horizons and learning the lessons those challenges have to teach have left us a bit stronger and wiser.  What I am saying is if life was an absolute utopia with nothing, absolutely nothing, to give us a kick in the ass to expand our horizons, evolve, and adapt, we would not have the forge that hones our character into the finely crafted tools needed to be strong, smart, and better people.  We all would be like that orange man in the White House throwing tirades and fits every time something does not go our way,

I am also thankful for my friends who have stuck with me and my fiancee through thick and thin. Times of hardship especially what we are enduring right now have taught me that when things get tough, people reveal their true nature. Unfortunately for too many out there, their true nature excludes a moral compass in favor of selfishness and no regard for fellow human beings. Most of the time it does not take long for someone like that to reveal their true nature. Some however take time, often years, and massive amounts of personal investment to finally reveal their true nature. The latter hurts badly. But fortunately there are a small handful of human beings that never waiver, never stray, never transgress trust, never give up on themselves and others no matter how tough things get. They still place fellow human beings above selfish desires. To the friends who have never given up on me and my fiancee and who accept us for all of our strengths and weaknesses, you all have my profound thanks.  Neither of us are perfect and are constant works in progress. But you have remained at our sides without terms and conditions. For that I have boundless appreciation for all for you.

Folks, we are facing allot of problems as individuals and as a society, of a magnitude I personally have never seen before in my life. But regardless of how bad things may seem, there are still things to be thankful for. You may or may not see those things right now. That depends on who you are as a person and what you are made of. However, its a safe bet that when all is settled again and you look back to the fact that you have made it through what life is throwing at your right now and you recall the lessons you have learned and currently have yet to learn, you will be a better person and you will be thankful for being made a better person by the challenges you face.

Happy thanksgiving and I hope to see all of you on the other side of the current hardships.
