RAM and a hair cut...twooo biiiiits! And good riddance procaster!

by
^.^ Yes I got both of those today, my mom bribed me. Get a hair cut and a new stick of RAM for my PC, I couldn't refuse. So after 10 months forgetting to cut my hair, I kinda needed it. I was so off balance getting outta the barber's chair lol. Gotta love those moments.

Another cool thing, I'm getting my mom addicted to playing Portal for the first time. She rarely uses her computer and it was kinda funny watching her play an FPS for the first time ^////^ I was prolly just as bad my first time though.

So I get this 1gb stick of RAM for my PC, but I have this problem. For over a year, my comuter won't boot correctly again if I turn it off or hard restart it. I gotta fiddle with pulling the video card out, resetting the BIOS and do a rain dance and maybe it will be nice and boot for me. So, I was excited about getting this new memory, but a lil weary of turing off my PC. No problem! A thunderstorm blew in and the power cut off for me lol! I happily installed said memory, did a rain dance and my PC eventually booted again, now with 3gb of RAM...yay!!

Another thing that's bugged the crap outta me is Livestream's Procaster. I really can't say enough about how much I hate that program. From it's cheaply thrown together flash GUI, to it's use of ffdshow to encode video and rape your RAM like Tails at a furry con.....it's pure junk. I've had it use up to 1.7GB or more of my memory just to stream video. In contrast to this, I also stream on Skype, it works fine, streams full quality to one person without any hit in quality and uses very little memory. Livestream just can't suck in their pride and forget about reinventing the wheel I guess.

But that's okay, becaue I crawled out from under my rock and noticed this bad boy. Adobe? Free? Hell yes? Hehe, it's a pretty decent app. Used about 100mb worth of memory and around 20% of my CPU to do it's thing. In your face LiveStream Procrapper!!!

Oh, and as for my tooth problem, well..it's still got a hole in it I guess, but I killed whatever was in it several times over. Held some peroxide in my mouth for 5 minutes, the did the same with listerine. A while after that no more tooth pain..yay! The dentist can suck it for now, just like livestream, and whoever made the BIOS chip on my motherboard, and that overpriced seafood resturant downtown. ..and..I better call it a night ^/////^

So's what does more memory mean for my art? That I can use more layers and be a lil more crazy with SAI than usual. I can also run more apps at the same time and open a browser for once while streaming...oh my gosh...unheard of! It's like...getting an extra testicle, or a 2 foot penis and new pants to fit.

Hehee! Peaces out, I's a happeh wabbits.

3GB?....I have 8GB in my laptop and I am in serv need of at least another 4.... how do you survive with 3GB?

oh well, I guess you are not rendering HD videos of the size of several GB....

LOL! I run windows xp 32 bit. I don't own an HD TV or a monitor that big, nor would I have space for those huge videos on all my hard drives atm. Not really interested in serving that kinda thing either because I don't have the bandwidth. Heh! It's not a matter of surviving, it's just lowering the requirements to do whatever it is I like to do with my PC. Most of that is make art, animate, watch movies and cartoons, listen to music, program, chat, and browse, and maybe encode a few videos once in a while. I'm a happy camper when all my stuff works how I need it to work.

I only have 2GB in both my desktop and my laptop and I don't notice much of a problem. (Medium quality in procaster works great when I stream Adobe Illustrator work I do, don't notice much-if any, lag. And that's at 1920x1200 and 1366x768 resolution respectively)

Maybe mess around with codec settings?

Also, if you are running 1x2GB+1x1GB, your ram won't run in dual channel mode, which will hurt performance somewhat. Sticks need to be the same size when in pairs for dual channel to work (2x2GB, 2x1GB+2x512mb, etc)

I'm pretty much ready to call it quits on procaster, I don't need it anymore as long as adobe's app works fine. If I tried the full res of my lcd monitor (1280x720) I'm pretty sure it would lag horribly as I can only do 40kbs upload on my DSL here. I haven't seen anbody run video at the resolutions you've described in livestream. but if that works in your case, that's pretty cool.

" Also, if you are running 1x2GB+1x1GB, your ram won't run in dual channel mode

Yeah, I know, but I need RAM space more than speed, and it's way better than windows hitting the page file any day of the week.

Ummm...and where would you stream with that Adobe thing buckling? Still on Livestream?

Yep! You just make a special url with your channel name, user name, and password like this guide shows: http://www.livestream.com/userguide/index.php?title=Us...
