Lots of the things in the back are based on his myths.
We got king Midas on the far left. To cure himself of the golden touch (which he stupidly asked for from Dionysus) Dionysus had him wash it off in a river.
Next to him we have the satyr, always known for follow him around.
Silenus is on the donkey next to the satyrs and Midas. He was his mentor. I put silenus next to the satyrs and Midas because silenus is followed by satyrs a lot and in the Midas myth Midas helps silenus which is what earns him a favor from Dionysus in the first place.
Lycurgus is the guy with the ax fighting vines on top. In most myths it talks about him going crazy and attacking vines because he disliked dionysus. Theres a few different versions of what happened. In some tales he kills his family after going crazy and thinking they are grape vines too. Other cases he accidentally cuts his own foot off by swinging wildly.
Pentheus is next to the grape vines and near Dionysus's crotch in the picture. That comes from the bacchae. Its based on the later part of the play where his mother, mistaking pentheus for a wild animal, thanks to Dionysus, rips him apart and runs around showing off his head.
Ampelos is very close to the grapes at the bottom. He was Dionysus's first love. When he died he turns into a grape vine which is why Dionysus ended up becoming the god of wine. Right above him you can see someone in the process of making wine.
On the far side there are two animals.
One is a leopard which he is frequently seen with.
The other is a dolphin, which is based on another myth of his when he was stranded on a rock, thanks to another god, and a group of unruly sailors saw him, though he was pretty and decided they could make a good buck off of selling him as a sex slave. He didn't take kindly to that and made most of them go crazy and then turned him into dolphins.
thyrsus, Dionysus' staff is also in the picture. Its always been described as a staff with what appears to be a pine cone at the end.
Other names for Dionysus: Bromios (the thunderer, or person who can speak very loudly) and Evius
As for his looks. I decided to try to make him very effeminate because in a lot of myths he is described as having very girly features and frequently cross-dresses.
