I feel like a lot of budding artist might get the wrong idea regarding how real improvement/progress happens :O

After doing some thinking, I realized that you guys don't see everything that I do - only everything I POST. Seems obvious, right? Well, sorta. How many of you have made assumptions about an artists skill/likes/tastes just because of what they post?

I don't blame you. One's profile/posts can be specialized for one's needs. This is actually how I treat my commissions/accounts~ I post cute adorable shiz, and only tend to accept things to my liking - thus, you guys can trust that you'll get cute adorbs shiz from me.

However. I also want to be a good example.

Those of you tuning in on my streams will have seen me do these studies often. Drawing from observation improves A LOT of smaller skills that'll help you along your journey.

I like thinking of these things like a video game :O.

So during observational drawing, you'e:

Upping your Ability to See - You'll be better at noticing smaller details, and being able to actively compare proportions as you draw. You are also forced to draw in regards to proper perspective.

Cataloging a Library of Knowledge - Be it people/animals, or nature, you're gaining some insight of the subject while you're drawing it. Nuances like what kind of nose, to the size of the ears in comparison to a head. Down to methods of rendering~

Improving hand-eye-coordination - Bridging the gap between seeing something, and putting it on paper. The easier this is, the easier it is to do it from your head too~

Learning to Design - the way you replicate a life-drawing will vary. Quicker studies will focus on the broader shapes and actions of the subjects. Longer studies will let you create methods of rendering materials.

Learning the laws of Physics and Light - Longer studies will allow you to explore the values and forms of the subjects. You can see first-hand how light affects your subject as you draw it.

This info's just off the top of my head. It's the tip of the iceberg :O. Be sure when you're studying, that you're actively paying attention~! Mindlessly replicating will most likely still help you a lot, but really analyzing and solving problems is what's going to make you improve quickly~!

Actually I just probably couldn't :O

This is SUPER REFERENCED, like I'm looking at a picture, and recreating it with my own flair on the values/design.

with TOOOOONS of referencing and being smart, I could probably make some kinda close/cool photo-ish-realistic-sorta prons, and that may be fun to experiment with at some point in time, but I don't plan on it. Not offering it as a commission at least.

Wonderful, and I especially appreciate all the tips, really.  It's tough to improve when you're constantly running into walls.  But it's nice to know there is another out there, actually pushing themself.  Thank you.
