as you said the movement is a bit laggy, ive also noticed that some of the characters lose their legs every once in a while... also I was wondering... will there be any m/m or m/solo interactions in the game?
kitsuneyoukai
9 years, 1 month ago
M/Solo maybe, but very very unlikely M/M, i just much prefer this to be M/F since that's what he appeared to be into in show (thats my reasoning anyway.)

Kiala only has half a "M" in her speech box when I talk to her with her happy expression. her surprised expression has no text at all.
catprowler
9 years, 1 month ago
Agreed.

Version Firefox 36.0.1

Kirara has a open eyed says half an "M" and closed eyed says nothing.
Tried from every angle and at various spots and same results.    I was at least hoping for a "mew."

Besides characters blinking at times and coming back, I'm guessing the light dashed lines which are the limits of movement are supposed to be visible.

the borders are supposed to be visible; but i can take them out if you think they're not useful or spoil the atmosphere
catprowler

Well games deal with this several ways I took me a few seconds to realize they were borders at first but I figured it out.  For now they might be good just to know limits.

hmm.. that's so weird. i don't even know why it would cut off the text, especially in different places like that. gotta be something visual. i'll have to look into it. ..and yeah, she is supposed to be saying mew :P

This looks really good, but the diagonal directional moving will take some getting used to, is there any way to make mouse clicking a way to choose direction, or is that too complicated for the platform?

I can see how a turn based, action/fighting sequence could turn really bad if you clicked the wrong direction.

thank you very much ^^ i can make moving by clicking an option, yes = )

I don't really see any problems with it except for how the movement lags if you hold down the button (as already mentioned) , although on the subject on moving it's very choppy, should I expect smoother movement and possibly animation in the future? n_n
kitsuneyoukai
9 years, 1 month ago
We're not currently sure how this engine would handle animation with this movement system, also we'll probably have to contract someone to animate it, since i dont know how to animate and im sure would take to long to learn. if we do any it'll be in a donation stage update.

I, Literaly, cannot wait! I have been DIEING for a hentai RPG with a cute shota protagonist for ages XD and shippo would be one of my top picks if I was given a choice so this is just awesome.

Agreed. I've been waiting for a game with a shota protagonist for AGES, and Shippo is one of my top 10 shota crushes. <3 I am really looking forward to this.

I use Chrome, the latest version, as far as I'm aware. Holding down any of the movement buttons causes the game to freeze for several seconds, and when it works again I've hit the edge of your movement square on the clear other side of the map. Just tapping the buttons works great though.

The setting looks great, and the UI does look very good, even if none of it really does anything yet. I do like the yellow lines denoting where you can move and where you can't and would highly suggest you keep them. Some would say they break the flow of the game, but those people are crazy and I much prefer knowing where I can go with only a glance rather than running along the wall and trying every single thing and meeting with nearly constant failure. I would suggest that, until you get the movement issues settled, that the NPC's really shouldn't move around - Kagome was outright running away from me and it took a good 15 seconds to catch up with her.

This is more of a personal complaint, but I really don't like the movement style. When I press down I don't go down, I go diagonally left. I'm not sure what style of movement that's called, but - while I can get used to it - it's a constant nagging feeling that puts a damper on the experience as a whole.

I'm also really glad to hear there's no M/M, I was kind of worried about running into surprise yaoi, or needing to walk on eggshells when talking to male characters lest they get the impression I'm interested.

i agree with slicerness, with a few comments of my own.
i feel that the movement style is much too choppy, and that i hope that you and the others who work on this game will come up with a movement animation soon. also, the town is a little too small right now, maby add a shop or some thing.
PS: the one thing that slicer said that i dident agree with is the absence of m/m.
when ever you drew it, i thought it looked really good.

Dialog boxes duplicate endlessly, no backgrounds and game area is not displayed correctly at all on opera 12.17 (none of those problems occurs on latest version of opera). My favorite browser is so out of date :D
elderflowerpudding
9 years, 1 month ago
no testing has of yet been done on any layout engines except webkit, gecko, and blink, as these are by far the most popular. i would suspect opera back when it was based on the presto engine had no css3 support, which this game absolutely requires for 3D transforms (how the tiles are tilted and all that) as well as animations (sprite and background movement) and dialogue (the divs containing the dialogue are generated using javascript calls the engine probably didn't support). as someone who used to swear by opera 12, i'd really like to support it; but i fear it's actually impossible given the requirements of the engine. maybe i'm wrong and will find a way to, but i wouldn't count on it.

edit: it doesn't work very well on webkit either, but i gave up trying to make it work for this release :P it's a pre-alpha, after all

It plays back really slow, like 2 fps slow. Could be my shit computer, or there may be a problem with the efficiency of your display/code.
elderflowerpudding
9 years, 1 month ago
this is already fixed for google chrome and >=opera-15 (blink engine) by allowing it to use CSS3 animations that can benefit from GPU acceleration, but it's pretty much impossible to improve on firefox (gecko) even with said fix. the DOM refresh (which it needs to do whenever you move anyway to change which tile you and the other characters are in) is just too slow, and the algorithm that determines how that happens is inside the layout-engine's code, so fixing it would require forking that, and that's way beyond my level and time allowance :P i've limited the movement speed and made it tap-to-move only on ff so that it performs close to adequately. the updated code is not yet posted. (disclaimer: it won't work well no matter what browser you use if you're, say, using a laptop with shitty CPU-shared video.)
the game doesn't display properly (or almost at all) on webkit-based browsers (safari, midori, etc.), and i haven't found a way to get it to yet. we'll see if i can.
haven't yet tested konqueror (KHTML).
won't fix for IE(trident), <opera-15(presto), or little-used browsers like dillo(dillo).

As others have mentioned, the movement takes long enough that it throws out the sense of immersion, especially with the lack of sprite animations, at least in Chrome 41. This is offset somewhat by the fact that the player can move Shippo (and thus the rest of the cast) smoothly by mashing one or more of the mapped directional keys, but exacerbated by the fact that holding down any mapped key whatsoever causes a massive surge of lag. I would also like to reiterate other players' disagreement with your choice to map the directional keys in an isometric game to a default which does not reflect that style of character movement - a common (and more accurate) alternative used by developers of other isometric games (when those developers bother to think about their players' gameplay experience rather than simply the aesthetics) is SAZX rather than WASD (assuming a standard QWERTY layout keyboard).

Other than that, you seem to have a pretty good start. The graphics are good and match to both your aesthetic style and those used in both the manga and the anime. The dialogue is simple so far but flows cleanly and loads without lag, stutter or printing errors (at least on my tested computer and browser). The visual background in the level design is decently planned out and again matches the source material. The map border is subtle but visible, familiar to those of us who have seen it in other games and simple enough for the rest to quickly understand, and helpful in this early stage of development.

I look forward to seeing more as it becomes available.

---

I feel I have to ask...aside from Microsoft's refusal or inability to integrate standards and cross-compatibility into IE in a timely manner, and the corporation's general and well-deserved poor reputation, why do you (specifically Twilight) not want to fix the game to work with what has been in my experience (although barely) the most stable of the Big Three Browsers for the past three years?

who told you it runs poorly in firefox? i just tried it and it ran fine
elderflowerpudding
8 years, 11 months ago
tl;dr: if you think it runs fine in firefox, you'll be surprised how well it runs in chrome.

we'd like it to run better. the sprites are all annoyingly antialiased after moving, and the browser applying that algorithm slows the program down significantly. in chrome, which doesn't apply that algorithm and processes DOM refreshes more efficiently, moving shippou is fast enough to where i've allowed the user to hold down the key to move him.. but doing that on firefox makes it lag tremendously.. and he'll end up halfway across the map before the screen refreshes, so i've limited the movement rate on ff. also, i don't really understand the different way firefox performs 3d transformations, so all the sprites currently appear to be halfway out of the tiles they're actually in.

but this is an early development stage still, and i haven't worked on cross-browser compatibility much yet.
Keristrasza
8 years, 10 months ago
for it being in the very early stages of development

i am extreamily impressed at the sprite and facial sprite animations for the movement and detail in them so far, if the quality is kept this high all along there is going to be a very good fanfic game here

on a side note,

if you hold a direction key to move, it will move you, but causes lag spikes as it moves,

and personally, i would love if it had a click to move here system setup, but as it is now, is very decent

a note on the basic attack, i know its probably because its just lacking in the units so far but

there is no health gauges or anything, no way to notice if your opponent is almost finished off

i know that as a realistic kinda sense, you wouldnt get a flat out hp gauge on a real opponent, but, a idea, say, 3 different sprites for battle stages,

New and unharmed,

Fatigued,

and almost defeated, exhausted looking face on them, a panting or breathless look
elderflowerpudding
8 years, 10 months ago
click to move would be easy enough; i'll probably add it.

it's recommended you play the game in chrome or opera as it's actually firefox causing those lag spikes. its rendering engine is inefficient, and i haven't found a way to turn off its antialiasing "feature" yet.. which slows things down even further as it's applied every time you move one tile. if you're using chrome or opera and still getting lag, please let me know, as that is something i need to fix post haste.

health gauges are coming; the attack function was the last thing i did before uploading this version and is the most incomplete. i'll consider tinting the sprites different colors for normal, bloodied, and dying (DnD categories). i dunno about different sprites/animations for those states; that depends on what kit wants to do. =P

thanks for the feedback!

Ran into a problem where when Shippo gets close to the pervy monk (whose name I have forgotten) both the Monk and Shippo may dissappear from the screen. It can be both of them, or 1 of them but it seems to only affect them when they are close. It seems to affect my Torch  browser. Torch Version 42.0.0.9806, which is a modded Chrome Browser

Did not see or notice any problems in Firefox Version 39.0.

Seen a lot of problems in Internet Explorer 11 but I don't think that matters much.

Do not have default google Chrome browser to test. Can test in Opera later if you plan on that browser.
elderflowerpudding
8 years, 9 months ago
thanks! ^^ i'll check that out.

as a note, i've not put literally any work into supporting IE. haven't even tested it. only doing main-line chrome, firefox, and chromium-based opera for now, as that's what i imagine most people on this site are using. i'll start working on IE support when it comes time that i want to release the engine source on github or something as a game maker. the code is done from scratch--and is under the MIT license already; just haven't put it up anywhere convenient for people to grab yet =P

Yea looking at IE 11 I seen a lot of problems. Honestly you shouldn't even worry about IE anymore since Windows 10 dropped IE completely. There is going to be a new MS browser with 10 tho whether it is any good or not IDK. Not a fan of Win8/8.1 either so.

Anyways my browser, Torch should be chrome based.
http://www.torchbrowser.com/

Using it as another way to grab videos and such. Tho like I said I'm not sure if problem is just way my particular browser is handling it or if it generally affects chromium browsers.

So just a question...  Does anything happen with Kirara?

All I get is random two sets of numbers between 1 and 5 after hitting spacebar.  Several times of this she disappears.  I tried close to 10 times now and it happens each time.  Is there nothing to see yet?

Hm... What plans do you have as far as possible seduction options? Presumably you'll go with the three you usually pair Shippo with, AKA every female of the main group(Kagome, Kilala, and Sango), but I imagine that for a full game you'll want to add more options. Like say a female adult fox-demon teacher from the school that is there to evaluate Shippo's seduction skills with her as both the tutorial/practice character and the final test, or something to restore Kaede's youth. Successfully seducing Ayame from behind Koga's back could be a good challenge. An older Rin could also work, though you'd likely need to appease Sesshōmaru first. I'd suggest going over the Inuyasha Wiki to find appropriate seduction options, and could do well to make potential side-plots and such.
kitsuneyoukai
8 years, 8 months ago
you'll be able to do girls show in the show, im not gonna make anyone up for him to bang, thats lame :v.

i suggested perhaps some kind of time warp or something so shippo could do young Kaede, since that'd be really interesting and funny :v

anywho, it'll first be kirara, then we'll go down a list of girls as we expand the game.
flyonthewall
8 years, 8 months ago
Honestly you probably shouldn't need to make any up, there should be plenty around for Shippo to go after. I was just suggesting the Fox-demon teacher because it made sense for the story. Though, if you do go for the time shenanigans you may want to consider using it for other characters that are dead by the end of the series.
