It's nice that big girls know that mermaids don't really wear a shell bra, someone needs to explain this to little girls because they stiull live in pony town =p

Well as fictional characters, I imagine if they do or don't wear any particular item is 100% up to whoever is drawing them.

I remember seeing a version of the Little Mermaid as a kid that wasn't made by Disney, and in that one they didn't have bras at all.

I'm referring to the original novel, you know Disney ruined these stories, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast... etc, I recently rewatched these movies as I been in the mood to watch old Disney movies, man they took so much liberty with these stories, the ending to The Little Mermaid is so different, I liked the tragic ending in the original story but Disney's version just ruined it!

Yeah, but you really can't blame them.  They were making movies with an intended demographic in mind.  They say kids can handle any story as long as it has a happy ending.  If it had a sad ending, most kids aren't intelligent enough to look past that or understand why.

Kids aren't stupid, I learned the story of The Little Mermaid as a kid and I heard it hundreds of times, it never bothered me the sad ending if anything it made me appreciate the story better and the sacrifice of Ariel to let her beloved one happy even if it meant she can't go back the way she was and had to turn into bubbles and disappear forever, maybe it's different here because we grew up with anime more than cartoons back in the days and most of them had sad and tragic endings at the end, I dunno.

You /= all kids.  It's not even about my opinion anyways, I was just stating what is widely considered to be true by many.

I know that but I think this "widely" seems to apply mostly to western countries as eastern countries don't mind tragedy or death scenes in kids shows, after all death knows no age and in my opinion it's easier to tell your son that grandpa died after he realizes that Bambie's mother actually died, but that's only my opinion anyway.

Edit: I apologize if my comment seemed harsh.

You are right, it is mostly a Western thing.  However since I am Western this is the social construct I see firsthand.  We are also talking about a cartoon made by a Western animator mainly for a Western audience.

Trust me, I hate when "kid" shows get watered down for the sake of appealing to what they consider the level of kids understanding.  However at the same time I don't think it's entirely without basis.  Kids are not as intelligent as adults, and they are certainly not as emotionally mature.  Some things they simply will have a hard time understanding.

I guess you're right, it just pisses me off when people treat kids as idiots, you'd be surprised how smart a 3 years old can be!

Everyone thinks their own kids are special and smart.  Yet, most kids are not special or smart.
