Actually the reason we hate Flash Sentry is because he's basically a Gary-Stu, and a cliche-for-the-sake-of-a-cliche with little to no character whatsoever and only becomes relevant in an unneeded (and contradictory) side-plot who's sole purpose was to shove the ship right in our faces, and who other than that does nothing but bump into her yet suddenly wins the heart of the main character.
Basically: we hate him because he's pretty much exactly like those really bad self insert ocs that are made specifically to pair with the character, and we hate the ship because it's basically the product of really bad writing.
Oh and the fact that his debut was in a plothole-ridden, cliche-filled high school drama didn't help matters either.

I was REALLY hoping it wouldn't be "him" of all ponies, but I guess it is. Twilight wants an answer as to why nopony like All Flash, No Substance Sentry? It's easy. He is everything wrong with a love interest. Instead of a stallion or somepony who Twilight has come to know and a stallion who's interesting and has a character, we get somepony who's not the least bit unique, or interesting.
Flash IS a self-insert character. There's no other way to put it here. Flash basically has no presence, no character, nothing memorable to him, and he certainly is not somepony I'd ever put with Twilight. Flash does not have anything that would make him relate to Twilight at all. There's no sense of connection between them, no buildup at all, nothing at all. He doesn't even do anything in the second movie and is only there to provide romance for a shipping nopony is on board with.
It's made even worse when Twilight falls for him IN LESS THAN A DAY. Yeah, cause falling for a guy who has no character, no personality, or just doesn't do jack s**t is every girl's dream. I can't understand how Twilight, WHY Twilight, would fall for some guy who is a Gary Stu at all.

The issue is that if we're supposed to believe this is Twilight's love interest, it's a terrible attempt then to ship her with Flash. There have been two movies to build up, develop, and flesh out the character and relationship. And what do they do? They don't do anything and Twilight STILL thinks he's perfect. They squandered two movies to build this relationship up and nothing happens at all.

It's develop. It's not like Twilight and Flash just met and they kiss and have sex. In the movie. They love interesting just start. They just start to looking and learn about each other. But story can't focus on that since this movie isn't romance movie. This is a small part of movie and movie have limit time to show it. How about we change that? If writer gave 30-60% of time in the movie to show the relationship between Flash and Twilight? Point is that whole romance side story was completely pointless, didn’t add anything to the movie and was only there as token high school thing. That made Flash Sentry to seem like a very shallow character who’s only reason being there was to have a little romance out of nowhere with Twilight in order to appeal to young girls (granted that young girls has been show’s target audience from the start, but it got popular because it mostly avoided the tropes of generic "girl cartoon"), and this caused some fans to hate the movie and Flash Sentry’s character. I agree that there will always be some fans that hate it when their favorite character has any kind of relationship, but there has been multiple examples where most of the fans are totally okay with their favorite character having romantic relationship even very late into the series. Thing is that those relationships have been handled much better than just introducing a new character and having the main character fall in love with them instantly. If they had no time to properly establish Flash Sentry’s character and his relationship with Twilight in a single movie then they should have just skipped it entirely, or just lay down ground work and then continue building the relationship in either the main series or in the second movie. I believe that if they had handled both introducing Flash Sentry’s character and his relationship with Twilight a bit better, then there would A LOT less people that hate Flash Sentry.

I understand Flash is supposed to be some rocking guitarist from what we've seen. Perhaps my biggest problem with Flash is that they honestly wasted him. They could've done so much more with him and make him actually decent. Not really good, but a decent character for the most part. I feel that Flash could've been better had he be given a bit more screen time and play some other role aside from love interest. They had this new character, but it feels more like he was thrown in at the last millisecond. Had they actually have Flash play a bigger and better role, maybe I, and possibly others, wouldn't be slagging and criticizing him so much.

You know, I started off liking this comic. The idea that Nightmare wanted a life of her own and wanted Rarity to be her mother in return for granting her a new life, it was an interesting idea. And it was interesting to see what the artist thought life would be like in Ponyville so many years down the road. I was even fine with all the ships and their descendants. But this? It’s gone full preach mode all of a sudden, and over this?
I honestly don’t think anyone (bar a small few) have any problem with Twilight being shipped with someone. Just look at the fandom, it’s all over. True, it’s not always with the same pony (or non-pony), even though there are some ships that are common. But I think most people realize that it’s all a person’s preference.
What people have a problem with is WHO is was that Hasbro finally decided to ship her with. Not a character we already love, or one we already know of. But a completely new character with no personality, no real qualities people can find redeeming. And the whole thing completely blindsides everyone. They’re not even trying to play it up as ’love at first sight’ in a fairy tale sense. It’s just them (literally) slapping the two characters together, and forcing instant relationship. Hell, it at least took Twilight two whole episodes to just get to be friends with the other Mane 6.
Hell, at this point, the artist could have had Twi have an illicit affair with Mr. Cake, and people would have been more ok with it than trying to shove her together with Flash Woodplank. But this? It feels like a complete non-committal cop-out. Breaking the fourth wall aside, if the artist wanted to tell a story, this is perhaps the worse choice they’ve made so far, and it makes me worry that they’re just going to end up making even more bad choices with their story telling as things go on.

As someone neutral to the argument, it honestly feels like you're waffling back and forth on that stance, since in some arguments you argue for the ship the others are attacking as though you are personally invested in it, and in others you give the answer that it's not directed toward the fans of the show.
If it's not directed at the people reading it, it might've been a better idea to include Rarity in the shots other than the last panel to show she is the specific focus, rather than having them just be twilight (not to mention in the first she is looking directly toward the reader, as if addressing them). It's one thing to have a strong opinion on something, but if you make something like that the people who read it are going to take it directly, because it -is- directed at them whether you meant it to be or not.

I think your question is the crux of the problem with Flash Sentry haters. He is introduced in Equestria Girls and the writers have Twilight crush on him, with Flash apparently returning the feelings. But little is made to expand his character beyond 'this is the guy Twilight likes', most seem to see him as a piece of cardboard, one dimensioned with no real personality to speak of.
Therefore, we do not know 'who' Flash Sentry is, we know he's in a band, but we dont know what type of music he likes, he has a car but we dont know how he lives in general. The other characters are expanded upon in the series quite a bit, even the side chracters like Cheerilee and Big Macintosh get some character progression or exploration.
Flash is in a grand total of three times in the enitre series, he is in Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks, but makes one minor appearance in the TV series as one of Princess Cadances bodyguards, he then gets on a train and leaves with only a minor glance at Twilight.
Overall, I think the problem is that out of all characters that Twilight could have been with, the writers chose to give her a 'love interest' that was written to be only that. Personally I have no feelings either way on this issue, especially after seeing how heated some of the arguements can get, seriously guys this is a cartoon, leave it alone.

I'm sorry to tell you this, cause so far I've liked both your other comics, but it just feels like lazy story telling, trying to offend as little of the fanbase as possible, which just makes you come across as someone without the passion or commitment to tell the story the way you want to. Trying to avoid offending the fans just ends up in more fans feeling offended. The people who support the Flashlight ship think you're avoiding acknowledging that it exists and that you just hate on the 'official' ship. People who do hate that ship think you support it but are too afraid to admit it in the comic. Others think you want to ship Twilight with a self-insert but are too afraid of what the fans might think or that they'll bash your OC cause of it.
And before someone tries to spout 'It's just a cartoon' or 'it's just a comic', yes I know. I don't care. I'm not talking about comic/cartoon vs reality. I'm talking about story telling. And a non-committal approach is never a good idea in telling a story. You can be vague, you can be misleading, you can keep things a mystery all the way up to a big reveal, but copping out on a major detail so as to not 'offend' or cause 'drama' is just bad story telling.

It does not mean that some girl is actually engaged, just that you would gladly have her as your wife. It's essentially wife + an u creating the internet slang wifeu, which is somewhat Japanese-anime sounding that way. So Wifeu is a cute word for saying "wife material"...but also means that a girl (or a boy, or even a robot) has great physical attributes...bluntly saying again you would gladly marry your waifu, and also would gladly have sex with your sexy waifu! Because most persons are protective, or outright over-protecting about their waifus. It is understandable, when the waifu is a fanmade character, since it belongs to someone, but for a copyrighted character straight from the show, it's irrational. Characters, who you aren't owning, can be called waifus, but you don't defend that claim with all the zeal of the world! Yet, there are persons out there, who are taking things too seriously...as usually.
