It was a calm, yet dark night within a realm called Highever. The land being covered with fields of grass, trees, mountains. Temples, caves, ruins everything a kingdom would've had and in the center of it all was a large city made out of the most purest material which gave it a silver, shineful color. Which was a way to give people the sense of hope and freedom within their lands.
Far away from the main city layed a abandoned cave, or so everyone thought. Inside layed a dragoness of Black Ebony scales and a violet underbelly. While a larger, male dragon of Black Ebony and ocean blue underbelly sat guard, watching over the forest that their cave was refuged by.
Within the dragoness' paws a sleeping baby dragon of black ebony and golden scales, and two golden horns that were rather small since he hatched no longer than several hours ago. The baby dragon letting out a few loud whimpers as he tried to keep warm in his mother's grasp.
Which this caught the attention of the much larger dragon, in which he walked inside and stared down upon the young hatchling, he sighed as a thought entered his mind. "Lizzyanda" the male dragon spoke out towards the dragoness. In which she stared up at him with curiosity in her eyes. Even though she knew what this male dragon was going to start speaking about, it was showing clear as day in his eyes of the topic he wished to talk about.

"I know what it is you wish to talk about Exer...about giving up our child to a better family than us. We are wanted and being hunted like wild animals by the emperor Dranus after all...But can I at least hold him for another couple hours?" she asked. Her tone was saddened, inside of her heart she was in great unspeakable pain. This was her son, the thought of giving up her son to a different family pained her heart greatly.
The larger male dragon sighed out of annoyance and frustration, slowly giving a nod down to the dragoness "Fine, we can keep him for a couple more hours but that's it"  he replied. Going back to watching guard from the cliffside of their cave.
Those two hours went by very quickly, it was now nearly about two o'clock AM at night.
The male dragon having retired to sleep about an hour ago, while the dragoness picking her son up, she took flight off towards the far west corner of the forest. Humming and singing a lullaby to him that went "Hush now my darling. Dont you cry now. Mommy will keep you safe and warm, even when she cant. This is not our goodbye" she paused in the middle of her sentence.
Gliding down to a nearby abandoned hay cart, which the wooden wheels and structure was still intact she slowly landed on her hind legs. Having carried her son in her two front forepaws through the whole ten minute flight. Lowering the sleeping dragon into the hay, in which she grabs a few mouthfuls of hay and covers her son in it. Making sure that every section of his body was hidden. Once that was done she stepped back, fighting back heartbreaking tears that swelled in her eyes. It gave her eyes a burning sensation, forcing her to blink and shed a few tears. Once she got ahold of herself she finished the rest of her lullaby with these words. "We will meet again someday" and with that the dragoness took flight into the sky and left towards her home.

Soon twenty four hours passed, the cart having not budged for a inch during those twenty four hours. The sleeping dragon waking up with a loud whimper as he heard two knights beginning to talk rather loudly near the cart. One of them shouted with the words "What the-Why do i have to check the cart?!" in which his question was replied from the other knight "Because Alexander, you found the cart" he replied, grinning from behind the mask that covered his face except for his eyes.
"I hate you so much right now Derian" he replied back to the other night. Walking over to the cart he pulled out his sword from its shealth that was attatched to his right side with his left hand. While his right hand grabbed the shield's strap around his chest, pulling it the shield was held firmly now infront of him in his right hand.
The knight very hesitantly poked the blade through the hay, which punctured the hatchling's sensitive scales. This resulted in a loud crying scream which scared Alexander quite badly. Making him drop his two weapons and jump into the arms of Derian.
Derian blinked for a few moments as he tried to take in result of the situation, looking down at Alexander he gave a heavy glare at the knight, which made Alexander quickly jump out of Derian's hold. Not wanting to piss off his fellow knight and brother "Hehe I wasn't scared" Alexander said rather firmly, his tone of voice clearly showing signs of being startled by the young hatchling.

"Suuure you werent" Derian replied quickly, walking over to the abandoned hay cart he grabbed some small sections of the hay and pulled them apart, his eyes widening when he saw the young baby dragon whimpering there. He looked down to where the hatchling got punctured, seeing that he was only bleeding just a small bit of blood on the thigh of his right hind leg.
The hatchling staring up at Derian with fear in it's eyes, being afraid that he would get hurt again.
"Shhh, shhhh its alright little one" Derian said in a calm tone, bringing his hands forward very slowly. Only to get swiped at by the hatchling. Which brought Derian's hand's back quite very quickly. Looking around for anything he could use. He took off a bit of his cape that was draping behind his back.
Using it like a blanket he quickly grabs the hatchling and covers it with the cape he used like a blanket. But leaving the hatchling's upper chest and front forepaws free so it could still move and breathe.
The young male squirmed and withered around in the knight's hold, trying to fight out of his grasp. Derian starting to cradle and pet the top of the hatchling's head slowly. This got the young hatchling to calm down very quickly, letting out a purring affectionate sound much like a cat would.
"Sooo..." Alexander said to break the silence. This caught Derian's attention, looking over at his sibling and asking after a few second pause "So what Alexander?" he asked. Becoming confused and curious why his sibling just didn't finish his sentence like that.
"So what do we do about the hatchling? We can't leave it here or take it with us, I mean what if big momma dragon comes back? I would rather not get my face burned off by fire. And I already know for a fact due to getting some burns on my legs that it's extremely painful! Just imagine what it'd do to my face!" he said rather loudly.
This made Derian roll his eyes becoming even more annoyed than he was earlier at his sibling "We have more better things to worry than a pissed off Dragoness, we're in the middle of war remember?" he stated.

This got the other knight to shut up quickly, but he wanted to complain as well. Giving an 'ugh' since he know he wouldn't win the argument he pulled on his horse' reigns and led it over to the front of the cart. Attatching the cart to the horse' back, he lightly gave it a smack on it's rear end. Which caused it to let out a 'phhbt' sound before it started to take it's leave with the cart attatched.
Derian climbing onto the back of the cart and helping Alex on since the horse was travelling a bit fast. He listened to the wheels creeking and he felt the bumps from the rough, dirt terrain. Still holding the young hatchling in the cape he wrapped him around in. Smiling down at the hatchling and watching him, while his own sibling kept an eye on the road as they traveled for another couple hours.
The horse stopping at a small fortress, the walls were grey and cracked. And the small fortress didn't have much chances of defense either from a large scale attack. The gate opening for the two of them, they began to walk through the small section of town they had built within the walls.
There were no citizens, just soldiers that ranged from the age of thirteen and above. This included eighty year old men who could barely run if they had to. Seven minutes of walking through the town, they reached the main military building built in the center of the fortress.
The building had everything needed for close range to far ranged training areas. What caught the hatchling's real attention however during the small tour of the town is that it wasn't muddy, messy. But rather clean despite all the workers here. It made him wonder just how was it they managed to keep a clean military fortress.
Soon his attention was diverted when he hears the two front doors of the main military building began to open. A fourty year old man and a anthromorphic black ebony and red colored dragon. With three scars on his face, turned their attention to the two soldiers walking in.
"This had better be good for this interruption!" the dragon shouted. In which he was quickly silenced by the fourty year old man raising his hand up "Relax my friend, i am sure they are here for good reason. Private Alexander, Corporal Derian, report your situation" he replied. Placing his hands behind his back.
"Well sir, we got the hay cart you requested us to find, fits the exact description of our cart that went missing several months ago. Luckily it wasn't damaged, at least not too badly, it had a few cracks and pieces missing. Nothing to worry about though. Though we did come across something unexpected" he replied. Extending his hands out he showed the young baby dragon to the two of them.
They both immeadiately recognized the hatchling by its appearance and colors. They knew EXACTLY who he was, since they knew the hatchling's mother and father. They however gave eachother a worried look "You dont think the mother would give up her hatchling unless for very good reason" the black and red dragon whispered. The man giving a nod of his head "Turns out our scouts couldn't protect her new family as much as we hoped" he replied.

This made Derian and Alexander give a look of worry as well, they were hoping they didn't have to give up the dragon they had just found. Yet when they heard the words "Congratulations on finding this hatchling you two. This child is rather important for our rebellion against the emperor and for good reason. I dont think I need to say why he's important, I know we have very poor equipment and so on for our rebellion. But we are taking care of this hatchling and training him. All those who will complain will have to deal with me" he called out.
This made the black and red dragon give an annoyed grunt "You cant be serious! If the emperor found out that we have the child that can possibly ruin his plans then-" though he was interrupted by a rather slow handclap. Which got all of them to look over to see who was clapping.
Another man, who was wearing full plate body armor, his helmet having horns that went upwards compared to downwards slowly approached them. Keeping his clapping going until he was fully revealed in the sunlight coming in from the windows and the doors that had opened. "Congratulations indeed on finding that little brat, I may be a soldier myself in the rebellion. But I have to agree with our general Nuva here. You're possibly dooming the entire rebellion Dragtho" he said. Looking towards the fourty year old man.
"Thornos...you're back, I thought you were leading a group of men on a small hit and run raid" Dragtho replied looking confused at Thornos.
"We were ambushed during the raid, only I made it unscaved. But still Dragtho, i say toss the hatchling out into the world. let it take care of itself. We're not responsible for every little baby that's born here or brought in. We're in the middle of war and-"
He again was interrupted by his commanding officer. "Enough! I am the leader of the rebellion, and I am the commanding officer of all of you! We are keeping the child and that's final!" though he quickly calmed down once he saw the hatchling was nearly about to cry from all the shouting. "We have to...I have to...it's a promise we kept Nuva...you know that" he said, looking towards the black and red dragon once more.

Nuva gave out a loud sigh, closing his eyes "I know, I know and I wasn't saying we should toss him out into the wilds. And I definitely wasn't saying we should take care of him either. But if we are going to indeed take care of him. I am going to be his personal trainer, you may be the leader Dragtho. But I am the only truly skilled dragon within our rebellion, you yourself have said it."
This made the man nod slowly "Very well Nuva, you'll have your wish. Anything you wish to add Thornos?" he asked. Giving his general Thornos a very upset glare.
"No...sir" Thornos said in a angry tone, storming out of the room he left the main military hall. The purple cape strapped to his back blowing in the wind the moment he stepped outside.
"Now then...to name the little one..." he then began to extend his hand out to the young hatchling. Gasping as his pupils shrinked and began to dilate, giving him a strong yet quick and unclear vision of the future, making him groan as he put a hand alongside the front of his forehead.
The three soldiers in the room giving him a concerned look, but they didn't say anything as soon shortly after experiencing that unclear vision he said loudly. "This boy's name shall be Wedger, we shall raise him. Train him to the best of our capabilities. And if everything goes right, he will face his destiny...and hopefully our homes shall be free on that day..."
