Gadget Animated Turnaround

Here's a cute little flirty animation of Gadget turning around and letting us get a look at her.

Her model is getting closer and closer to finished, so I thought a newer and better turnaround would be a fun little project. (The original is in my scraps, and is dull.)  I also have a partially-completed model of the RR base main room created, and so Gadget is now in an actual environment instead of the white-cube-room from my test renders.

Total time spent animating this final version was probably around 7-10 hours, using every decent computer I have available.  I had to tone down some of the fancier shaders I was using to keep the render time from being more like 30-100 hours...

There are still a few small bugs that I don't feel like re-rendering to fix (focus blur is deliberate tho), and I haven't done anything with her hands or feet yet, AND I'm still tweaking her mesh so I haven't done any shape keys for her face.  And and, of course, her hair is still a big ??? for me.  Just before building this animation, I experimented with particle hair, using fewer but larger hairs; results weren't great and still liked to crash Blender on me.

I really think the mousey-girl just has too damn much hair.  I'm pondering a re-design; she is a product of the 80s after all, and an update wouldn't hurt.  But, that's for the future.

nice job,

she needs some eyelids, and maybe remove the graininess

The eyelids come under face animation, which isn't ready yet, but will come eventually.

Reducing the grain would have been the difference between a 10 hour render and a 30-50 hour render. I chose a reasonable median and stuck with it.

Very Nice! looks pretty accurate.Hair is a little big.

Not too big by much; the whole thing is modeled based on the official Disney model sheet (shows her hair extends down past her belt).  However, they do vary her hair length a bit from time to time, probably a result of different animation teams not doing things quite on-model.

Well done :D Actually I have number of notes but of course only if you accept notes from occasional bypassers

Thanks.  I'm pretty aware of all the problems, and there are many.  Since this was meant as just a silly throwaway thing, I'm not really concerned with fixing them at this point.

Are you using Cycles for this? I'm curious as to what sort of impact it makes. If you are, what video card are you using?

Yeah, Cycles.  Cycles is pretty great; I'd love to be able to write my own shaders for it, since that's kind of my main thing when I'm not making Gadget dance for me.

Man, GPU rendering? I wish.  My good GPU died several months ago, so I can't offload the rendering to GPU at all.  I'm trying to compensate by doing a network render with all my available hardware, but it's still at least several orders of magnitude slower than it would be otherwise.  Until I can afford a new GPU, stuck with the Slowness.

She looks really good. Very smooth animation too. Does her hair have some sort of modifier to help it's movement like cloth?
I have an old GTX 470 I could give you. It's fairly old but handles Cuda well.

Thanks.  Her hair in this is just a static mesh; I've experimented with doing soft-body on it, but getting good results requires more compute time and patience than I generally have.  Any appearance of dynamism imparted is entirely in the mind of the beholder.  That said, I've got a particle-hair test animation + stills I'll be posting in a second.

No kidding @ the 470?  That's a decent card.  PM me and we'll see if we can make the logistics work.
