Featuring the incorrigible Leon, replete with his dueling accoutrement, drawn from real-life reference. The setting is a kind of quasi-Victorian hacienda or sorts. I was really excited to draw him and Renei swashbuckling with some hapless, feckless henchmen. And then he asked me to make Fountain Dude’s fedora red, like it was *me* about to careen from the fountain into several rapiers.

I hate this illustration so much.

I know this may be silly to focus on in a nice pic, but why does that sword have a spring loaded hand guard? It already has a hand guard, and a mechanical one like that would make the sword both heavier and make it easy to break the blade near the hilt.

Actually that is dirk, a type of dagger usually used as an off hand weapon in accompaniment of a rapier or saber. Unlike a sheild it can be used both offensive and defensively and so is favored by fighters and rogues who fight in small groups. Like assassins and swashbucklers.
