Name: The Magician
Numeral: I
Planetary Trump of:  Mercury
Hebrew Letter: Beth (house)
Tree of Life: The performer on the path between Kether and Binah.
Concept: The body is a temple providing shelter from the world of illusion.
Description: An older white rabbit wears a blue and red top hat, blue robes trimmed in gold, a belt made of serpent. He juggles a wand, flying egg, basket and carrot. A feather quill and scroll are tucked into his belt. Silver stars spiral in the background.
Character: He dons the top hat from the Trickster, it's not too big for him to wear now but fits rather well. The serpent about his waste worn as a belt isn't a skin but is alive and symbolises infinity, completion and masculinity. The colour of his fur has faded, but his robes are ablaze with colour, he is easily recognised as someone confident and capable. He's the juggler going about his trade. The four objects he juggles each refer to one of the four suits in the Twilight Rabbit Tarot (more on this subject can be found in the chapters pertaining to the Minor Arcana and the Court Cards). The wand represents the suit of Clover and activity, the basket the suit of Passions and emotion, the carrot the suit of Carrots and trouble, the egg the suit of Stone and value. The egg is the Cosmic Egg and it connects the concepts of a macroverse (deity) and a microverse (us). The Universe still unfurls about him as it did in the Trickster, but the sky is twilight and the stars have dimmed, losing their sparkle and lustre in comparison to his glory. Everything is up in the air but under his control, his will rules over all.
The wizened Trickster has become a master of the aspects of existing in the Universe. All four aspects of life (corresponding to the four suits) can be bent to his will. He is every poet, artist and scribe. He isn't a slave to time but still understands his place amidst infinity. He’s the worker, the lover, the warrior, the master, The Magician.
Meaning: In readings this card signifies a person confident and strong because he believes himself fully capable. Often he’s asked to perform in order to prove his prowess. He’s happy to oblige and show off.
History: Originally this card's name literally was the Trivial Performer. This is a card of excitement, capacity and showing off. It is the card of will and mind over matter. Whenever the Magician is paired with an Ace, it can be derived that the querant (or an alternate person in discussion) has mastery over that Suit's particular area in life. An example would be the Magician paired with the Ace of Clover would indicate that someone in discussion has mastery over cooperative endeavours, career and/or creative forces.
