I am doing everything I can to spread the word. Stan Sakai has done more for Furry Fandom than many of us even realize. His wife Sharon has been battling a very tenacious brain tumor that requires long term -- and very expensive -- medical care. She is one of the most vivacious and good-natured ladies that I know, but the last time I saw her she was not even able to smile. That broke my heart. Then, tragedy upon tragedy, Stan's infant grandson died in his sleep two days ago, from an as-yet unknown cause. I can only imagine the pain that Stan is enduring, and I am hoping that we as a fandom can help him through it, if only by taking away some of the worry of how he will pay for the medical bills. The Cartoon Art Professional Society has started an auction, 100% of the proceeds of which will go to the Sakai Family. If you are an artist and have original artwork to donate, please consider doing so. If you are not an artist and would like to help with a monetary donation, there is a fund set up at http://garageartstudio.blogspot.ca/2013/11/help-stan-sakai.html Stan has stepped up when the mainstream was looking at us with loathing. He lent his soft but still powerful voice to our defense and silenced a lot of the naysayers in the industry. Words cannot describe the debt we owe to him. I just hope we can in some small way repay it. |
