Yo, Nhiloid!
A Flurry in a Hurry
I got in a mood, today, to draw some of Jacent's old 20th century villains. These were some of the common figures that plagued Cap'n Comet's existence. A disgruntled public works technician, an olympic gymnast-turned-thief, and Dr. Nhilus' top enforcer. Thankfully, he can breathe a sigh of relief, as all of these brutal brigands are lost to time.

Oh wow, this is awesome! I love the design on Tunnel Vision and Spidress, while Grendel looks like all sorts of nasty just by her demeanor. Really cool to see some of Jacent's past depicted.

Oh, Is there a history to this bunch? Like what pushed them into villainy, aside from Grendel?

Ralph Salinsky. Born into a family of workaday laborers, he followed his very unambitious heart to become a member of the local Public Works Union and found himself doing a lot of digging. Water works, power lines, if there was something you had to unearth, he had the permits and knowledge to do it. However, at one point his workflow was interrupted. A huge mega-mall, something that had been five years in the planning, was being built... but political loopholes and backroom deals had forced the Unions out. All of the construction was being done by cheap labor ported in. The loss of this multiple-year job was financially devastating to him, but the worst part was pride. He'd told people for years that he would be on the crew that built that mall, and as the years ground on, and that now ugly mar on the landscape was erected without any proper oversight, Ralph went mad. Thanks to resources provided by a mysterious benefactor, he used his electrical engineering knowledge to create a suit of armor that made him into a bulletproof, unstoppable digging machine. On opening day, Ralph dug underneath the mall and planted det charges that he set off just as the ribbon was cut, destroying the entire complex. Warrants for his arrest piled up, and when he finally destroyed the office of the Senator who had let the mall be built without him, he changed from ordinary, hard-working Ralph Salinsky to Tunnel Vision, destroyer of any buildings that weren't up to his increasingly erratic, unknowable 'code.'

Lydia Vanzetti. A happy Italian girl who was nonetheless unnoticed, being one of many middle children in her burgeoning family. She wanted to be a movie star, but her family's modest means meant that she would most likely never attain such a status- not without help. As she grew older, she learned she had an affinity for flexibility and unbelievable acts of dexterity. She applied this as much as possible, and eventually she even made it to the Olympics. The local Olympic Committee promised that if any athlete brought home the Gold, they'd be showered in prize money and lucrative contracts, all of which sounded amazing to Lydia. She could see herself using the money and connections to attain all of her dreams. However, these day dreams got in the way of her training, and as a result, she attained Silver. Whereas anyone else would have been perfectly happy with this, Lydia felt cheated. If she couldn't win her way to stardom legitimately, she'd steal her way to the top, by becoming a master thief. She left her family to study under career criminals and eventually made an identity for herself: The Spidress, who could lower on a rope with arachnid precision. Her dreams of stardom blended with her criminal career, thus why she's so showy.

.....wow. See, that is why you're one of my favorite artist. You put some good detail into backstories. :3

Wow. I'm not sure what to say, other than I have gained a newfound love of these villains.

While I'm sure you could write it in in a flowing, narritively sound manner, I will roll my eyes SO hard if the gang finds find Grendal powered off in a subway somewhere.

I'm watching you. >.>

While I think the spirit of that is misguided, I can assure you that won't happen. :P

Though, it might be fun to do some sidestories featuring Jacent's adventures sometime.

You do have an in-story excuse to do that actually, one of the 'mysteries' brought up in volume 2 of the story is looking into Jacent's past, which is likely to mean checking out/reading the comics and Jacent pointing out any inconsistencies.

Probably not something to have in the main story(unless it's already planned or has something to do with the main plot somehow), but as side-stories, something to relax with when the pack has some downtime, I imagine they'd make great little mini-adventures.

Tunnel Vision seems like the kind of guy who has a tragic backstory but is also batshit insane. Y'know, like a comic book version of the Killdozer guy, probably up to and including angrily tearing down libraries in a misguided attempt to express rage against an unfair city government.

The spidress seems like she was totally his Catwoman x3 And probably one of those villains who gets underestimated and can fight way better than you think.

Grendel looks mean, surly, and generally disappointed/displeased with life. By which I mean life-forms, because that look says "Why aren't you dead yet?". Also, is she modelled off of a kangaroo?

Oh, yeah, you pegged him very well. And her, for that matter. *laughs* There's a reason certain readers might've read too much into Jacent's interactions with her.

Grendel hates people more than Nhilus, which is impressive given the man's defining feature is misanthropy. She's quite an opponent, as well. She was actually designed based off of a dragon, making her a sort of portmanteau of many elements of Beowulf. : )

That's kind of what I figured by the name but without backspines or something to define the draconic nature she looks more like an anthro kangaroo, so I had to ask.

For some reason, I imagine Spidress being Comet's love interest. @.@ Mostly due to the fact that Spider-man and Batman have "thief" love interest in their rogues gallery. X3

It's very cool to see these villains, but I -really- like Grendel. I can't put my finger on it, exactly.
Something about her look just spikes all these aesthetic enjoyment centers in my brain.
