I originally created this image for a t-shirt design contest featuring mythical creatures. However, the rules stated that one was only allowed to use 5 colors. This is the original image before it was reduced.
The background was actually supposed to be a sketch, later to be replaced with a more detailed background. However, I kind of liked how it looks, so I kept it that way.

Thanks. =^,.,^=
Yes, the Kirin (or Qilin in Chinese) was originally depicted as a tiger-dragon-hybrid with antlers, later also with a carp's beard. However, some illustrations also show it as horse-dragon-hybrid with a single branching, twig-like horn on the forehead. It's a creature of wisdom and tranquility, some believe its sighted at the arrival or passing of a wise sage. That's why some believe it to actually be the origin of the western unicorn.
Me, I like to see the ones in this style as something like guardians of nature and nature-related sacred places.
Fun fact: Qilin/Kirin is actually the word for giraffe in Chinese/Japanese, as when a Chinese general once brought a giraffe to his emperor, it was deemed a kirin.
There's an elaborate article concerning kirins on wikipedia if you're interested in learning more.

I might check that out, and it seems you are well endowed with the mythos surrounding this creature already. It is intersting that you mention tiger dragon hybrid  think I have seen art of those already. Iike the imoogi Korean legends myself.

I have a thing for mythology, and asian mythology can be interesting. I think it is way more imaginative than some of the western stuff.
The pic you posted, yes, that is also an interpretion of a kirin, even though the artist doesn't specifically mention it.

Before you told me I did not even know that it was called a Kirin so I doubt an average person from Germany might know much Asian culture like I did and I am average from the US.

Heh, well, like I said, I have a thing for that stuff. It's a great source of inspiration for stories, pictures and the likes.
