Just doodled Catharine from that angle while practicing in SAI, then added in Jacqueline. Then I finished it. Huh.

Ooooh, your line work looks really nice in Sai. :D

Thankya! That said, I kinda see SAI like performance-enhancing drugs. I'm not entirely certain this good linework is all my talent, or if the program's picking up the slack for me.

Depends how much you're using the stabilizer/smoothing tool, and why you continue to draw, doesn't it? :>

Yeah, and I use it a lot. The reason I'm not sure if it's my own talent or not is because I'm not sure if SAI helps bridge the gap that digital art tends to make. It's harder to do things right digitally, 'cuz you don't have as much control as with a pencil, so I'm wondering whether the stabilizer just fixes that problem or if it makes it easier than pencils/pens.

There's always one way to find out. Try using oC and see if you can do just as well.

I think it mostly comes down to this. Is the style you want to use or currently use the style you're best at using? I think maybe it's best to try out some other styles of drawing because different styles can require a different handling of your pen, where maybe a sloppier handling is what makes the style good and appealing as opposed to smooth flawless lines or something like that.

I find Sai a great tool to use, mainly because my style seems to be more cartoonish than I'd like, even though I try putting a lot of detail in. The smooth lines go really well with my basic colouring that I enjoy doing.

I'd say before questioning which program you use, experiment with how you go about using it.

Been doing that already, actually. I use Gimp and I'm currently using SAI. I think perhaps they're good for different things, and I might just wind up using them alternately depending on what I'm drawing.

As for openCanvas...I don't like that program at all. It actually hinders me more than The Gimp does. :P

Excellent! That's fantastic! Then keep it up until you've squeezed everything you can out of both of them :3
