Pet peeve time again... this time i go after socks....

What people call socks aren't there are 3 classes that people all universally call socks

1. Socks, a material that covers the entire footpaw area, to prevent them from getting dirty.
2. Leg warmer, to warm the legs, open toe and or ankle, meant for the 70's and 80's
3. Stocking, made from silk and luxurious materials that are meant to be more of an opaque covering. Meant more for sexy-times and worn with high heels generally. Part of a lingerie setup usually.

Sexy scale. (My scale)
100% full paw coverage, clean or dirty, no holes, more complicated the better for design. But classic goodness is the grey heel/toe. They can be thigh high, really short, and stripes are a bonus as well
80% The leg warmers, stripes are bonus. Still on my sexy radar
50% Socks with claw holes, ripped or made like that. They are OK...
40% Stocking, sheer, thin stuff
10% Holes... sock abuse call on that... no real attraction to them
0% Fat socks, socks too small for the paw, socks that hide the natural paw shape under a really thick cover. Could be mistaken for a thin boot... Don't like `em

SOCKS COVER THE ENTIRE PAW TO THE ANKLE! THE REST ARE NOT SOCKS

I don't find socks sexy, but my preferences for socks are quite demanding as far as what I want to WEAR.
a) Not above the knee. As you say, those are stockings, not socks.
b) Not as thin as stockings. I can't count the number of times my parents bought me "dress socks" for formal events and later, work, that were so thin my leg hair poked through and thus resulted in irritation whenever the fabric shifted at all. It's surprisingly hard to find black socks that are as thick as "athletic" socks. To me, socks are not just to keep the foot from getting dirty, but to cushion and warm slightly, either in addition to shoes or inside where shoes are not worn.
c) Not just ankle-height. On me, they tend to ride down, exposing bare skin to the cuffs of my jeans/slacks. I prefer socks that go about halfway to 3/4ths of the way up from my ankle to my knee.

Surprisingly, some of the best, most comfortable socks I've ever worn come from Costco, of all places.

Beyond that, I'm willing to experiment. On occasion I've worn patterned socks (eg. rainbow) over the top of comfortable socks, just for fun. And I have a pair of weird socks with toes, fun and interesting to wear, but not something I'd go out in every day.

those pet peeves are like mine and furries/people's missuses of BDSM terms. Bottom =/= Sub for example.

yea... I can be tied up and I can tie others up, and still have fun. To me, a bottom means that for a particular activity, someone is submissive/sissy/being controlled ect and can be a top at times or just changing up a routine. A Sub means submissive, to submit and never top, and is always the bottom. I could be classified as a switch, but I, just all around, am more interested in the scene mainly than classifications and who's doing what. Give me a role or a hole and I'll fill it or be filled XD

Holes and rips are my bane.
As I type this, one sock has had it, with a big rip and 2 other holes. The other is developing a hole. My left foot wears out socks sooner than the other.

And I have socks that are too nice, far too nice, to ever wear. The idea of them with grimed-in dirt, let alone HOLES, is anathema to me.

If you are a roo, then maybe you shouldn't bother with socks. Just wash your hoppers regularly.

Totally agree with the sexy scale... ok I would scale the leg warmers a bit more less but at the rest I agree with you^.^
