After months of delay, I'm finally gearing up to make a Waccoon puppet, in the hopes that he'll be on YouTube someday. No way am I going to show my own ugly mug online... no, sir!
I've always told people that Wac is short. He's 3' 7" tall, which turns out to be a bit taller than I expected once I had him sketched out. For reference, my own height is 5' 10". The head measures 8" in diameter (also larger than I expected), but so far seems to be a good size for my hand. I might very well use "actual size" as the final, but that depends how hard it is for me to keep my own head out of the camera view.
Also, beware the manliness of my frumpy work clothes and comfy slippers! In retrospect, I really should have worn something a bit more appropriate... LOL.
Anyway, the foam prototype is for scaling and experimentation, so it's designed to be super cheap, rather than durable. If my viability tests work out, the next prototype will be made of a wireframe to test the mouth/blinking movements, and then it will be finished with quality foam and fleece.
I've never tried making a 3D model of my characters before, so this is going to be quite fun and interesting to build. I'm already liking it, and even if the puppet thing doesn't work out, this will be a great reference for future drawings.
Man, cutting and sanding polystyrene foam sure does make a mess! I toyed with the idea of making the prototype in papier mâché, but the drying time would have driven me crazy.
