May everyone out there enjoy the eclipse tomorrow, but be careful not to burn your eyes...When you were born, eyes are only one pair per customer...The meerkat and civet are looking without eye protection. They better watch out.

I have glanced at a total eclips with the naked eye when I was 19. However, I did not stand there gazing and staring at it like an idiot. I moved my head in a passing motion twice, getting only a half second glance at it each of the two times. The way it actually looked to the unaided eye was absolutely beautiful...The words I have in this description can not describe it.

I'm not suggesting to anyone to do that, nor am I saying not to do it. What ever you do decide in that matter, use some common sense and don't go about it stupidly...I myself was satisfied with couple of half second glances and called that "enough".
From what I saw that summer when I was age 19, it doesn't look all that bright, but I was also aware of the fact it is very deceptive. It will fool you. Without the glasses, if you stare and gaze at it in awe, you'll burn up your eyes.
Of course there are always the special glasses for viewing an eclipse if a quick glance or two is not enough.

The way the eclipse appears in my drawing is the way I actually saw it when I did the two passing glances, except this drawing still does not give the beauty of it and the justice it is fully entitled to.
It looked like a jagged edge ring in the sky of the purest white you have never seen before...actually whiter than snow...and set against a velvet sky of deep cobalt blue, which was the colour of both the sky and where the moon blocked the view of the sun (the moon did not appear black).

Those half second glances were not long enough to hurt my eyes. That was back when I was age 19, and I am now 63 years of age. If any damage to my eyes had been done, I would have known it long before now...
...For all that goes, the five years I've worked as a welder / fabricator in a maintence shop 20 years ago was probably more apt to be harder on my eyes than anything else I've ever done.

So as I leave off, enjoy the eclipse, but don't do anything stupid you'll regret for the rest of your life.

Update 8 / 22 / 2017 ;

The revised pic #1 is more closer to what I actually saw when I was age 19.
At the time I did pic #2, I did not have paint.net because the 1 gig Acer I was using at the time would not handle paint. net.

Great art and brilliant writing as always, Moyo. I could almost hear Edward Elgar's 'Nimrod' playing in the background.

Good thing you showed you & yours as animals. You draw humans as -caricatures.

Anyway, The eclipse was only 1/4 and the light looked like early evening at 2:30 p.m. It was actually brighter at 5-6 p.m. long after the eclipse, a flubadub in my area, was over.
