her back arched sharply as his arms came around her. They felt warm on skin that had been cold for so long, but it hadn't refused the touch.

"I'm here...

you're here...

We're here together now.

Please... don't be sad..."

It hurt so much to hear those words. More than when her horn had been torn off. More than when her skin hardened like dry clay. More than when she had been banished where she was now.

Wetness had gone down her cheeks, and it felt alien to a thing that had gone hollow so long ago. She hadn't even noticed when her own arms came around him. That the tears wouldn't stop. That the stars continued to fall away in the distance as they sat there in beautiful silence.
