You are quite right, it is hard to know how a person is trying to be like to others via text alone. Would not be the first time someone thought I was trying to be just a jerk or something like that when I was not. It happens.
As for the turtle month and hungry reptiles question, you are right about that as well, I don't get it, never heard of "Turtle month, the month of hungry reptiles," as you have posted up top.
And never heard of turtle used as a slang for 'elderly man' before either. That is news to me. It does reminds me of that cartoon Dragon Ball Z and the old turtle hermit, Master Roshi. I wonder if that was some kind of symbolism behind all of that according to what you said some use turtle for. For an anime, mostly that one, I would not doubt it. But I also would not know.
