Rex was heading back to Ezra, Luke and Leia who were hiding after he saw some Stormtroopers heading his way. He was just about to get there when his ears perked up, he heard them scream. Rex ran, turning a corner on the abandoned streets when he saw a Stormtrooper about to kill Ezra. He tackled them to the ground and when they stopped rolling he realized who he was fighting, it was Cody. “Rex, you’re a rebel?” said Cody. “How can you wear that armor after what the empire did to the Republic?” Rex yelled, beginning to fight Cody. "You betrayed everything the Republic stood for by wearing it!" Rex screamed while decking Cody in the face. While they fight Cody continues, “I’m not the traitor. The jedi are. They destroyed the Republic,” Cody shouted. “The empire destroyed the Republic. I’m trying to bring it back,” Rex screamed back. Cody then grabbed his gun and whipped Rex across the face, stunning him. Cody got up and started to go back to the kids to kill them or bring them in, not sure which. Rex was on the ground, vaguely hearing the kids scream his name. He snapped out of it, when the world was in slow motion. He saw Cody about to grab Ezra when Rex noticed his gun in reach. He reached for the gun while memories from the war flashed in his mind. He knew what he had to do and it was probably the most difficult thing he had to do. Rex pulled the gun, aimed then pulled the trigger as tears streamed down his face. Cody’s body hit the floor, dead. Rex stumbled over and cradled Cody’s body in his arms, weeping openly. Luke, Leia and Ezra looked onwards as the sounds of other rebels running down the other street towards the group could be heard. Luke was puzzled, Leia was stunned while Ezra was sad. Ezra heard Rex tell story after story of Cody, he knew how close they were. Ezra could feel Rex’s sorrow. Rex didn’t want to hurt Cody but he had to protect them, it was a difficult choice to say the least.
