Sunset rushed through the magic mirror, a scowl deeply set into her face. "Where is she?!" She shouted, shocking the guards meant to guard the portal.

"Who are-" The guard never finished as Sunset grabbed the stallion by the throat with hre magic and pulled him in close.

"Where is Twilight?" She snarled, her eyes glowing as her magic built up within her. The buck shivered, her voice as cold as the tundra that surrounded their kingdom.

"Sunset, please..." From the doorway, Princess Cadence stood, her coat just as bit paler than usual. "Now isn't the time for anger. We have... we have suffered a great loss."

"That's why I'm here!" She retorted, pushing the guard away as she stomped past them. "I want to know what happened and where Twilight was when all this happened!"

"I... I cannot say." She whispered, the anguish clear in her voice. "Twilight refuses to tell anypony what happened. All we know is that they left together and then she brought Aunt Tia back like-" Her voice broke as tears started to fall from her eyes. As sunset drew closer, she saw how red the princess's eyes were already. She had been crying before this. Sunset clenched her teeth as tears threatened to fall from her own eyes.

"Then I'll ask her." She stated, marching past the princess of love. "She will tell me what happened."

Sunset found Twilight fairly quickly. Her assistant Spike, who had grown quite a bit since the last time she saw him, directed her to his friend. When asked, he admitted that he too didn't know how Celestia had died. The fact that Twilight refused to tell even Spike made Sunset's rage burn hotter. What was she hiding?

She kicked the door down, shocking the inhabitants. All of Twilight's pony friends were there, looking to be trying to comfort the lone mare sitting on the couch. From their sad eyes, she knew that they hadn't succeeded.

"Out." She ordered, not caring about how rude she was. They might be the pony versions of her friends but they were not her friends.

"Who the hay are you?!" Pony Applejack demanded, glaring at her. She stood between her and Twilight, apparently sensing Sunset's hostility. Sunset's horn glowed, just about to use her magic to force her not friends out of the way before Twilight spoke.

"It's okay, girls." She said with a raspy voice. Her eyes were as red as Cadence's and her voice... Had she been screaming?

"But Twi, what about-"

"It doesn't matter anymore." She interrupted, sitting up slightly. "It doesn't matter anymore." She repeated, with such finality that everyone in the room remained silent as the five mares left the room, leaving on Sunset and Twilight. After a few moments of silence, Sunset spoke.

"What do you mean it doesn't matter anymore?" She demanded, though Twilight said nothing. "Hey, I'm asking you a question! What do you mean it doesn't matter!?" She stomped forward, getting close to the alicorn. Twilight sighed.

"I know why you're here." She said, not looking up from the ground. "You want to know how Celestia die- no, why things are like this now." She whispered, as if she herself couldn't bear to speak those words. "I know that's what you want. That's what everyone wants. They want somepony to blame, somepony to declare vengeance on but it doesn't matter. Even if we were to raze the lands with fire and kill everyone involved. it'd change nothing. She would still be gone. We'd still have a hole in our-"

Sunset used her magic to drag Twilight off the couch and slam her against the wall. Twilight gasped, trying to catch her breath as the unicorn stomped over to her.

"What the hell are you going on about?!" She said with a glower, her magic showing in her eyes. "Revenge? Blame? All we want to know is what happened! Why are you hiding this from us?! We're you're friends and yet you refuse to tell us what happened to Princess Celestia?" Twilight smiled for some reason, shocking Sunset.

"You are so lucky though." She sighed. "You're world's Celestia is fine. You can see her everyday if you want." She's not the Celestia I knew. "You can protect her like you've protected our friends in the other world." And yet our Celestia is dead... "You can do more than I could for my Tia. You're so lucky." This pushed Sunset to the breaking point. She glared hatefully at Twilight

"Lucky?! How am I lucky?!" She demanded, pushing Twilight harder against the wall. "I have to now look a a fake Celestia for the next few years knowing that the one i look up to is gone... You are the princess of fucking friendship... You are the strongest unicorn I know... and yet you couldn't protect her?!" Sunset shouted, using her magic to clench her friends throat tighter. Tears fell down her cheek as she continued to shout. "She was my friend, she was our teacher... She was your wife and yet here you are... just laying about like some useless sack of unprocessed glue."

Twilight said nothing, her empty eye remaining on the ground. Even as Sunset, squeezed her magic tighter, the mare barely moved. It was only when those deep violet eyes met hers, that she understood. Those eyes... They were the eyes of somepony with very little to lose. Twilight was lost behind those eyes, grief blinding her to the pain she was experiencing. She heard Sunsets words but only barely processed them. But what was really worrying was what Sunset saw behind all her grief.

Hope.

Not for things to get better, but hope that Sunset would do what she had been contemplating. She wanted pain. She wanted an escape. Perhaps she even wanted to die?

Sunset dropped Twilight, watching the once vibrant mare collapse to the ground like a sack of potatoes. Even as she gasped for air, the look of disappointment broke Sunsets heart. She couldn't be left like this.

"I know what you want, Twilight." She growled, her anger barely being suppressed. "But you don't get to wuss you're way out of this. I won't let you die. If not for the princess than for your son and your friends." She sighed. "While they don't deserve a selfish mare like you, I'd hate for them to experience anymore loss."

*****

Okay, so I might be a horrible person but I really like the idea of a super depressed Twilight after the death of Celestia. I think it'd be very interesting for her and Sirius to experience such a loss. Twilight remains like this for... a while. Sirius tries to cheer his mother up, which is why be tries to get Flurry Heart to turn him into an alicorn. He thinks it would make his mother happy.

For a long time after this, Twilight remains on a kind of suicide watch. While she never attempts it herself she does kind of put herself in such situations. She was been found wandering the frozen wastes of the north and staring longingly out of windows. She does eventually get past this but never tells a soul what happened when Celestia and her left or how the Princess died.
