here are the two parts with the support material removed. you'll notice the prints look really smooth compared to how they looked before. although i use ABS, smoothing the models with acetone is out of the question. acetone is actually quite difficult to get ahold of in my country because of it's history as a component in bombs and cocaine production. so instead, i use Sand Paper and lots of patience to smooth my prints.

if you look closely you'll also notice some "pinkish" areas on the forehead. this is an automotive putty known as Bondo. normally it is used to fill holes in a vehicle after a crash. i use it to fill small holes and defects in the printing process, and then sand it smooth. bondo works well for this for two reasons. it is designed to be sanded, and it is designed to be painted.

this process took five hours for these two parts.

total work time excluding the modeling process so far:

-6 hours preparing the model for printing.
-13 hours printing these two pieces
-5 hours smoothing the surface of these two pieces.

overnight I'll have the printer print the next two parts.

It's like you're using cookies cream to mold it with.

Looks nice. ^^ Since you're using ABS, have you tried vapour smoothing?

will you believe is impossible to purchase Acetone on my country?.. it seems people used here in the past to make bombs (terrorism in the 80s)  and it's also a compnent for making cocaine.. and peru produce a lot of cocaine..  for that reason is kinda banned. :(

Well that's an unexpected snag. oO Sanding might provide better end result though.

That's a bit ridiculous considering how many other common chemicals can be used to make explosives.
Look up some alternatives. Butanone (aka methyl ethyl ketone aka MEK) is a widely mentioned one, though far less common.

Yeah ..it its (must for sure is the cocaine production that holds it nowdays)

I heard about other products, but still kinda hard to find specially if you don't know where and the name on spanish

Still worth trying to find something if you plan on doing more. Sanding is a pain.

the problem with chemical fluids is that you don't ahve much control of the surface you make smooth,  and as result you can lose some detail on the print, in sanding you choose where to make smooth or not..   also with the "bondo" (used to fix cracks between parts and print errors  it will require sanding anyways

Not fluids, vapor. The idea is to use that to minimize the need for manual sanding. And it can be used to smooth out the sanded surface as well.

Very great and accurate sculpting! X3 You've learned a heck of a lot with sculpting.

Wow, you sand every piece!? Dedication! I personally charge more for this step alone. It can take days on bigger pieces

This is in PLA I assume?

You can try Apoxie Sculpt instead of Bondo, its what I use and is widely used in the modeling industry.
https://www.amazon.com/Apoxie-Sculpt-Natural-Light-Epox...

I've also heard of people using a rock tumbler to smooth their 3D printed parts. You'll still have to sand, but it helps and gets some of the hard to reach areas. I've just ordered a 3D printer myself and am eager to see what I can do with it.

If you print in ABS the plastic itself will be harder, and easier to sand. You can use a technique involving acetone to smooth the prints without any sanding at all as well. But, ABS requires a heated print bed.

Hope some of this helps, good luck with the figure! It's looking great!! =3
