Look at that hideous thing! Yup, that's me!
I spent this Halloween scanning my old comic strips and in one of the papers I found this picture from an old interview from 1989 when I was making special effects for a weird independent movie that was never completed. Here I am with a friend wearing a mummy costume made by me. It's hard to see but I have a small creature on my shoulder too. I made four corpses for that movie, two were costumes to be worn by actors and two puppets. Also a few other props. It was all very amateurish but I think I made a decent job considering our budget was zero.
My part was a dream scene, the actress came running into the room and there were 4 zombies playing sitting on a table playing cards. I was under the table moving the puppets and burning some gun powder in a can (poor man's smoke machine!) she ran past the table and then from a closet came a guy screaming and shooting an AK47. That was the whole scene. We rehearsed it several times and finally shot the scene. That took the whole day.
A few days later the director told me when he developed the film the scene was useless because the tripod holding one of the lamps was visible when the camera panned across the room. We decided to repeat the scene when he could find some more film. The end.
