Semi-Final: the Unidentified "GHOST"

"Darn! The GHOST can't be ID'd!"

Hey! Remember when the Silph Scope was a thing? When Ghost-types were this ethereal mystery that couldn't be seen by the naked eye? Remember how that was TOTALLY forgotten by the second generation and you could just find Gastly in the third town like it was nothing? Yeah... what happened to that? So yeah, ranking in at no. 2 it's the unidentified "GHOST", you may qualify this as cheating but... if I didn't pull cheap dick moves like this in my Halloween Countdowns it wouldn't be the same, it's what keeps you on your toes and prevents you from expecting the obvious choices. Of course, I didn't do this JUST to be a dick (though that is a large part of it) No, I did it because the "GHOST" has become a bit of a Creepypasta/urban legend itself. If you haven't heard of the Pokemon "Creepy Black version" then you may not get this, but since I literally named this year's countdown after this I literally can't have this list without it! If you've not seen anything on the Creepy Black version, look it up; it's uh... well, it's not GOOD per say, I mean it's a neat idea and concept but scary? Hardly. I dunno, I've never found the haunted game Creepypastas to be intimidating at all since... you know... you can just shut the damn thing off.

Regardless, due to the "GHOST"s infamy, I had to add it in, as well as some other reasons. The "GHOST", to me, identifies (pun intended) a time in Pokemon where there was still a great air of mystery to it. Back in the original games, there was so much NOT said about Pokemon that made them intriguing. There were so many more mysteries, things you weren't allowed to know, the slightest implication that there WERE more, we just didn't see them... I feel that added so much to the charm of the series intially and is something that has long since died. Since the inclusion of other generations, that air of mystery has vanished. By each new game we basically know everything that's coming out for it and it brings no new surprises. Hell, I TRIED to avoid spoilers for Sun/Moon, I really did but it was all in vain. At the extreme risk of sounding old as fuck, it's just a symbol of the times. No one wants a mystery, everyone wants everything explained to them. This is why things like Five Nights at Freddy's will never die, because people long so much for that answer that will never come. The best kinds of stories always leave you wanting more and sadly that's a dying art form... I guess it's not terrible all things considered, but I do miss that feeling, that thing that made you strive to know more instead of just having everything told to you upfront. That's why I added this and why I ranked it so high, it truly is the sign of an age long gone from something I enjoyed from my younger days... that and it looks creepy as shit!~
