Being a wanderer at heart. Sonic never really had time to have a home. As a result, he'd typically spend his nights sleeping out in the open. The stars were his blanket, the dewy green grass was his bed, and the cold night frost was his pillow. (It was a wonder he hadn't come down with pneumonia yet...)
That was his lifestyle. But it wasn't exactly for everyone. Whenever he had company in a long fight to stop one of Eggman's schemes, they had to sleep through similar conditions. Sometimes, they would find a hotel so they could sleep in an actual bed. But for the most part, it was open air camping at night.
This time, Sonic found himself in Amy's company. The blue blur didn't mind having someone to talk to on the longer missions, and generally welcomed a helping hand. But Amy was... a bit more complicated for him. Being a friend is one thing. But when you're travelling with someone who's head over heels in love with you, then that can make for some... interesting moments.
Fortunately, Amy had behaved herself for the most part so far. And while he had been glomped and given a barrage of kisses a couple of times, she was trying her best to stay calm. And that was something Sonic always appreciated.
Amy had always been a bit of a complicated issue for Sonic. Here he was, a wanderer, a free spirit, someone who wouldn't say no to a chance to see the world. But of course, there was this one girl who was madly in love with him, and would literally follow him to the ends of the earth.
Sonic had always felt conflicted about this. On the one hand, Amy's pressing need to be with him tended to go against his free spirited nature. Especially considering that in the past, she has declared on no uncertain terms that they WOULD get married one day. Marriage? Him? He couldn't see that happening. Being bound to someone, and potentially restricted, spending the rest of your lives together? That just wasn't for him. He preferred his freedom...
But on the other hand, there have been times when he has actually considered taking things more seriously with her. He's seen her chirpy nature help her make friends with just about everyone she met. He's seen her compassion, caring for others, even if they barely know her. He's seen her drive and determination, letting her not only keep up the chase with him, but also become a real fighter when the chips are down.
And of course, he's seen just how incredibly cute she is...
Admittedly, Sonic hasn't really met that many female hedgehogs in his life. But Amy always stood out in his mind. With her red dress, pink fur, quills that framed her face, her sweet smile, and her beautiful emerald eyes that seemed to glisten. She could definitely be considered attractive in his mind.
Maybe one day, in the future, he would figure something out. One day, when Amy was calmer, and not so eager to jump him, they could talk, and work out once and for all exactly how he felt. But for now, who knows?
So, as he lay here, under the stars on a mercifully warm night, watching Amy gently dozing, her head leaning against his own, and her hand resting on his, he could only mutter a few words...
"What am I going to do with you?"

Again, I decided to bring my own headcanon into things, and give my thoughts on how Sonic feels about Amy. Again, it's unlikely that they'll legitimately hook up in any official media. But I like to think that he does think highly of her, despite what some people might say.
